Actually, Auskip, you should re-read the 2nd paragraph of the linked Consumer Reports article. CR did have an oil level warning on their Impreza.

Fuel economy race brings expensive oil to inexpensive cars

We generally support any technology that can improve fuel economy. But in this case, we wonder whether some consumers who purchase new cars may feel blindsided by the increased cost of their oil changes. And since 0W-20 mainly only improves fuel economy for the first few seconds of driving, we question whether the fuel economy gains are really worth the added costs for consumers over the life of the car

This was an interesting line in that CR article:

"... SAE is already working on standards for 0W-16 and 0W-12 blends...".

Once again with trollish zeal, youve made an ass of yourself auskip.
You need to take a reading/english course apparently.
Or you were just trying to smear me to anyone who didnt bother to read the first few paragraphs.

Thats all they said. They didnt elaborate any more on the ordeal. Which leads me to believe they find it acceptable?

Seriously? Twice Zeeper has said he'll leave you alone (and did) and twice you've taken a shot at him, presumably to start it up again. If you really don't want people to pick on you leave them alone when they stop! Grow up kid.

I have him on ignore, so I only saw that because you quoted it, but yes, 79 proves himself again and again to have the maturity of a 12 year old (an immature one), which is no surprise to anyone who has ever read through his various mood swings on this thread.

Mature discussion is wasted on him, I don't know why you continue trying.

dude you are cleary being immature and kinda trying to bait zeeper. He already put you on ignore and moved on, you are the one instigating and jabbing at someone who can't even defend themself. You should move on and get to that dealership and start the consumption test otherwise you are simply blowing hot air, also you should refrain from going into other threads and starting up the same endless debate. Nothing is accomplished from doing such a thing. The same would apply for ppl with mpg problems that go into other threads and take them over or start up the same argument. No one wants to read the same thing in 50 different threads. /rant

Not for free. You have to spend all your free time and gas money taking it to dealers.
And technically you do pay for it, when you buy a car youre also buying its warranty.

I didnt START anything. I was the one being attacked for a hundred pages.
And the guy kept saying " CR hasnt had the issue and theyre GOSPEL".
So yall unwad your panties, the gloves came off long ago.
Everytime theres a new link or new member with this seemingly common flaw, the discussion inevitably reverts back to smearing and insults. Was I a smartass? Of course! But after the berating I've endured, a little "i told you so" isnt out of line imo.

I still cant find a thread that I've "taken over", especially non-oil-related threads.
Have I mentioned the oil burning in otherdiscussions? Ummm yeah. But theyre usually discussions about cars and build quality and that kinda jazz.
You're implying that I am hijacking every thread and spouting off about oik, but that just simply isnt true at all.
One of the main subjects I post about is the lack of an awd coupe or two-door...
I've always been very pleased with the mpg's, btw.
And early on, I was glowing about my Subaru.
I wanted a Sube for a LOOOOONG TIME, and it righteously sucks that this is how it went dow..
Zeepers CR comments were many. I specifically remember his long explanation of how scientific and "not beholden to subaru" they were. I remember saying "give them time to rack up the miles".

Nothing to contribute here - just feel as though pointing out the usage of made up statistics of the number of Imprezas sold and number of vehicles "burning" oil has to be extremely low kind of goes out the window for me now (less than 2% was the number IIRC). If that were the case, the odds of CR getting an oil burner would have been that same low statistic (2%)... Thanks to those that follow the thread and contribute outside information with links.
I think it was good advice to start compiling owners with the issue to arm yourself better if the need arises - these outside links like CR are also very helpful and maybe shines a light on a possible issue with the fuel saving oil or possible other explanations.

If Consumer Reports identifies problematic oil consumption with their test Impreza I am sure they will do more than write an article about 0w-20 being hard to find and expensive. The fact that they had a low oil light come on is not evidence that all cars or most cars or even their car has an excessive consumption issue -- let's see if they mention it again, they tend to like to tell the truth and not hold anything back.

If their car is among the excessive oil burners, it will probably speed up the process by which SOA addresses the issue (publicity in CR about the problem would be good for those of you with cars using oil). I've already stated that I think SOA will come through with fix (you can search and see what I wrote previously). Rexygirl has all but confirmed that they are trying to identify the problem so they can fix it -- not that they are trying to run off owners who have the issue and cover it up.

However, I don't think you understand statistics. Even 'if' CR has a car that is burning excessive oil, it does not mean more than 1% (2% was actually my highest estimate) of cars are burning oil. They may have gotten one that is within the small percent of oil burners.

See how that works, it neither proves nor disproves anything, and until CR jumps out with a statement about their tester having a consumption issue everyone is just trying to read what they want into that one sentence, instead of reading what CR actually wrote -- OW-20 is hard to find and expensive and maybe overkill for MPG's.
