Train. Wreck.
This is called selection bias. Because the sample is not random you cannot infer anything from the statistics generated.

It takes quite a bit of posting for a newb to vote. I would think that if there were a bias, it would be towards a lower percent of oil burners. Its an enthusiast site. But I am done with bickering, who knows how many are burning oil. All we have is a poll that everyone loved until a year went by.
I may have a new problem, on my way to pickup dinner, I started to smell raw fuel very strongly. It smelled for several miles in light "city" traffic. After picking up $30 worth of asian food, I can't smell the gas. but when I get out to the garage I'm going to have to check it out and see whatsup.
Wish me luck- or don't

AGAIN- 14-18% OF THOSE WHO QUALIFY YO VOTE ON THE NASIOC ENTHUSIAST SITE'S POLL INDICATE UNUSUAL OIL CONSUMPTION.
You guys loved that poll when it was new with only 2 oil burners.
When did I say you have reading comprehension problems? Stop yelling. You are not randomly asking Impreza owners if they have problems and your sample set is minuscule, so your poll is invalid. You lose.

AGAIN- NO ONE IS FORCING YOU OR ZEEPER TO SURVEIL THE THREAD EVERY DAY FOR OVER A YEAR. THATS PROFESSIONAL LEVEL DEDICATION.
Again stop yelling. I tried to be civil with you, I really have. I have tried to give you suggestions for getting you "oil burning" problem fixed. In turn you have your temper tantrums and don't even listen to the advice (which is on topic mind you) that I give. You accuse people of name calling and being immature, but look at yourself. So pitiful.

You must be talking about 79, because the last 20 posts are his. I tried to share ideas of how people can approach this problem with Subaru, but I am responded to with his garbage. It has turned into an argument because 79 is a little child. I have been a member on this board and IWSTI for almost 9 years, I have NEVER encountered someone like him. He belongs in timeout.

Fwiw the "poll" isn't mine...
CommanderKeen is the one who created it.
And ST- you have been as passively aggressive as possible so I don't see how your insulting remarks, coupled with your skewing of facts and statements repeatedly is constituted as helpful.
Admonish me some more, but you guys are the ones who are the problem here.
Should I emulate your actions, and piss on anyone who starts a thread that I don't like??
Should I go in any "I love my Impreza" threads and just start calling the op a retard or stupid or any of your other intellectual elitist internet forum crap?

Back to the subject of CARS and not whos got the best insult of the day-

The raw fuel smell seems to be gone, maybe it was someone else's car in traffic.
Odd how no one wants to discuss the car at all. You read this why???

Sorry, you are being obtuse. Do you want us to discuss your non-existent raw fuel smell, or something else?

PS The obvious fact that the oil consumption poll is statistically insignificant, and multiple people pointing that out to you, should not result in ad hominem attacks from you. However, you never back down, even when you are clearly wrong, and rather than discuss the subject of CARS, you start with another rant. If you want to stick to the subject of CARS, start by talking about the car, and not your displeasure that people read your posts, and occasionally try to correct some of your more obvious misconceptions.

Cool now that you talk like this I will be openly a "dick". I hope your car never gets fixed, I hope this consumes all of your time in your pitiful life, and causes you much anguish. Oh wait, that's what is happening. How do you have any friends in life? How do you have a girlfriend? That's probably just made up because you have no life and post ALL DAY LONG on this forum. I'm glad the dealer banned you, it's because you acted like such a prick to them. How can I say that you will probably ask? Because unless you're Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, there is NO WAY that you could be any different than you are on this forum. Go drive the car you hate, go put vinyl stickers on your car with Calvin pissing on a Subaru logo (idiot). I'm so sorry that you're too poor to get another car, really I am. Perhaps if you were more educated you would be in a different place.

I'm a dick eh? I guess I'll just have to act like one from now on.

Wife's 2012 Impreza Sport has been having consumption problems from day one. Car has been using 1 quart every 1470 miles on average as measured by the dealer. SOA says we need to be below 1200 to remedy the situation.

I know this isn't right. I'm no child. I've built small bock Chevys from the ground up. I've purchased 5 new vehicles, 1 Chevrolet, 1 Toyota and 3 Scoobs, over the years and followed the dealer recommended break in procedure with no problems. We've, over the years owned 7 Subarus, including 4 with turbos and beat them up daily, and I've NEVER lost this much oil between changes. My 09 WRX didn't lose this much oil when the oil gauge adapter was lose, and undercoated the bottom of the car. (She'll never rust now )

I need to know if anyone in this thread has had an excessive oil consumption problem and actually gotten it fixed. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone with excessive consumption switched from the recommended 0-20W synthetic to a Standard (non-synthetic) oil and broken the motor in better to find that the prob went away?

2subies
Now back ON TOPIC:
2Subiesinyard, are you going to proceed with getting a consumption test? Others have tried different oil weights and types with no avail. It seems to continue to consume.

thread nazi here, considering how many oil consumption threads keep getting posted, is anyone ready to just have 1. The last one that got started I got scolded for saying close it. To that I will add this one, not new but ppl keep finding multiple oil burning threads posting in them and the data is getting scattered. 79 will you finally relent and agree to only having one oil burning thread? it is getting difficult to direct ppl to the necessary info with so many threads.

Aeoporta- while I genuinely agree with you 100% on that, I won't sit by while these guys attack me. And being that I'm the op I feel obligated to respond/check on the thread.
While I fully admit to talking **** back to people, I'm not sorry for it.
I have REPEATEDLY attempted to keep the thread cohesive but frankly- any discussion about the subject of subaru fb oil consumption will be, as evidenced, buried under personal attacks, and certain entities which serve only to hijack and derail the conversation. Because for some reason, its in their interests for there to be no discussion on the subject.
And the more they attack me the more of a google hit the thread becomes. Then googlers can see what the "online comminity" says to oil burners...

Be careful what you wish for, people reading this thread will assume that having a car that burns oil leads to mental illness for the poor owner.

I personally don't think there is a correlation, though I could find more data for this theory than for your theory that 10,000+ Impreza's are consuming oil, and Consumer Reports is actively trying to cover it up.

Thats YOUR conspiracy theory. I never said any numbers, only speculated based on empirical data.
And your mental illness is pretty obvious. obsessive with a superiority complex.

Why is there so much vitriol towards 79letour? Anyone else in his shoes would most likely be pissed the $#@# off as well, having spent your hard-earned money on a car to only have a pretty major defect

Here is the thing about numbers: when you write that 14-18% are probably burning oil (This was your guess, based upon 14 people responding on a poll of less than 100 NASIOC members that their car may be consuming oil), it does not take a math degree to figure out that if there are ~85,000 Imprezas on the road your guess means you think that 10,000-15,000 are burning oil.

This poll, by the way, that reached a whopping .12% of Impreza owners, making it statistically insignificant.

I call that exaggeration, and you immediately start in with ad hominem attacks.

Your theory about Consumer Reports is on this thread, you cannot erase it from memory just because it makes you look foolish. You tripled down on it, and spent a day trying to discredit Consumer Reports.

If you cannot remember any of this, you can go back and read your own posts. Maybe you should get high first, it will make it all seem even funnier!
