In Ohio, if you bring it in 3 times for the same problem, its considered a lemon. Sounds like you're getting close to that.

Update:

So I just got off the phone with my dealership. They've had my car for 4 weeks today and they still cannot give me an estimate for when I might get my car back. I guess the cylinder heads are still on national backorder and they have no ETA for the parts to come in from Subaru. :-/

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not ok with going any longer without a car that I'm paying for without at least an ETA. I'm in contact with someone at SOA right now about the possibility of a buyback.

So I was finally able to get through to the senior rep at SOA who is handling my case. According to her research, my engine parts are still two to three weeks out. She is looking into having them expedited if possible. I also inquired about the possibility of a buy-back. She told me it was unlikely my car would qualify for a buy back considering it is over 1 year old and has over 15,000 miles. She did, however, tell me something about some Subaru loyalty program in which she may be able to get me into a new Subaru at a discount or something like that. She said she was going to call me back tomorrow to let me know for sure about the buy-back situation.

At this point Im pretty sure I don't want another Impreza and nothing else in Subaru's lineup really piques my interest. I may just wait to get my car back after it's fixed and trade it in for a different brand.

You should point out to SOA that you had made the dealer, and thus soa, aware of it well over a year ago. Didn't you?
It looks pretty clear to me that SOA'S inner policy is to delay everything, blow as much smoke up your ass as they can, and buy time so that they can turn around and blame vehicle wear and mileage for not buying back or replacing the car.

If SOA is not willing to buy back your car I would ask them to either compensate you directly or have them make some of your finance payments. Can't hurt to ask.

I really don't that is a fair acertation just because of how this unfolded. There isn't a "master plan" or a conspiracy as you are stating. That really is a crock of BS. First off they don't ever have to buy back your vehicle, it is at their discretion. I have dealt with SOA on several matters and they have been very helpful. I have told everyone from square one to get SOA involved from the first sign of a big issue. That way you have everything documented at the onset.

Oh, believe me, I have already thought about that. I don't plan to walk away from this situation without compensation of some kind. At least not without a fight. I think that SOA making a couple of payments towards my car loan would be the least they could do for me.

Been MIA from the forum for awhile. But today my '12 hatch is at 28,9XX miles and dealer started an oil consumption test. Been having to top off with at least a quart every 2k

When did you first notice this oil consumption?

While I agree with the point about notifying soa asap when there's a problem, they sure seem to take a year and or 20k before they start to act like they care.

I agree. I complained about this problem since my car was two months old. They decided to take me seriously. Just after my car hit the 1 year old mark. Has anybody talked to a lawyer about this oil consumption situation? Technically they aren't breaking any laws. However when they are advertising about how reliable their cars are and they aren't even lasting a year, there could be a case there. Maybe a class action lawsuit of some sort.

I talked to several lawyers, the concensus was that as long as Subaru wrote that it was normal in the manual, its not considered defective.
I think the real problem lies with the SAE's decades-old acceptance of a quart per 1000 miles.
Probably a car company CYA holdover from the Nader era.

No, if you have consumption issues from the beginning they will run a consumption test on your car. If you meet the criteria they will do something about it. If not, then you are in the range they consider acceptable. This is no different than any manufacturer.

Also, after a year or 20k miles, you're still covered under bumper to bumper/drivetrain warranty. They aren't denying fixing it. If your engine is defective they will fix your engine.

Hmmm, that's surprising. I was under the impression that if a 2012+ Impreza didn't consume oil from the get-go, it likely wouldn't for the life of the car (assuming the engine was maintained properly, of course).

Good luck, and please keep us posted of your progress.

Yes, that's what it says on paper. However, does a new car still drive like a new car after the engine has been torn apart or replaced within the 1st year? I wouldn't know because the dealership has been "fixing" my car for over 9 weeks now. In that 9 weeks they gave it back to me twice and both times it broke down within hours of getting it back. It's frustrating because I am meeting multiple criteria for my car to be considered a lemon except for the fact that my car is over a year old.

I know I thought I was one of the lucky ones with no oil issues. They had already replaced the oil pressure sensor at around 18k miles and it was okay for awhile but when it started I just kept on going back to the dealer whenever the light turned on so it was recorded.

New car vs a year old car? There is no difference. Either it works or it does not when concerning the engine. Suspension would get worn and get looser but not for many thousands of miles.

No oil light. But I did just add the remainder of my oil from my last oil change (20oz) after 3000 miles of hilly/mountainous driving. I was about 1/3 the way from the low dot.

I'm 100% convinced the oil was just pushed through the pcv system because the same thing happens with my motorcycle, although the bike seems to do it at a faster rate and makes a mess of the top of my engine as it is just a filter on a hose.....

There were times on this trip where I was in gear coasting downhill to maintain safe speed for 12+ miles, that is a lot of engine braking!
