In all Honesty, while it sucks your new Impreza is burning too much oil either from new or by Dealer mistake unfortunately it may be better to bite the bullet and trade for your own sanity....

OR as this thread seems to be going no-where new ramp it up a notch to a Youtube campaign thats entertaining enough to attract International attention and hopefully Subaru Japan to notice you and sort it. By entertaining, don't just post dull blurry movies of you measuring oil levels make a Comedy out of it with slap stick, perhaps someone into amateur movie making could help you.

Actually, that's a great idea, and exactly how I think. But come on, my two youtube vids aren't GREAT, but they aren't blurry.
Maybe do a series of mock tv commercials... I'll start out with totally crapping on the "love is worth waiting for" ads.
Good idea. Idk if I'll go that route but its been on my mind the whole time. And since soa won't answer any of my questions, return calls or emails, and sends childish and frankly immature and petty criticisms of ME to the dealers (I've seen them), well maybe YouTube will be a great and louder voice.
But I wouldn't say this thread is going nowhere. We've finally found someone getting an engine replaced...

At the very least, my back window will be an anti-subaru ad. Folks will see a new car with "this car burn oil since new, piss on subaru". Its kind of a Lake County tradition to do that if you are sold a lemon.
There used to be a BRAND NEW caddy with "plaza sold me this lemon and refuses me service" stuck all over the car in custom graphics. It had lemons all over, and even yellow window tint.

My girlfriend has actually made some good youtube vids. A few are even mock commercials. She's a Scot, and has an uncanny wit, as well as being an accomplished smartass.

Yes, a video, an online Youtube campaign to smear Subaru (Isn't that what you are trying to do here with your incessant complaining?)

Isn't Rexygirl, who has been on this forum, at Maestro?

I bet Maestro will love your anti-subaru ads on the rear window when you bring it to them for service. I'm sure they will LOVE to go out of their way to work with someone, that they have been trying to help (Oil Consumption Test, etc), who is simultaneously smearing Subaru.

How long before they also tell you to take a hike (like the first dealer did?)

P.S. Don't forget to tell everyone in your video how fast you drove your car -- faster than the reported top speed!

What happens when you repeatedly bounce off the Rev Limiter (besides possible oil consumption?)

The rest of the world wants to know...

I also won't forget to say what a D I CK you are Zeeper.
As for dealers, I don't plan on going if they botch even simple oil changes.
My intent has never been to "smear" anyone. Only voice my experiences as a consumer and lewt people know how my ownership of a 2012 Subaru Impreza has gone.
As for the youtube, etc, well I don't really care what you think, yankee old fart.

Don't attack the messenger, attack the message. You are pretty fast to start personally insulting people, just because they are smarter than you.

P.S. I think we need independent verification that you hit 130mph, why not do it again in front of a Florida State Trooper! I look forward to reading about it.

Why is this thread still open? Or at least why isn't the original title changed?

Lets start a suggestions for the title:

-Crying for oil loss.
-I am Le-Tired of losing oil
-Checking my oil level is hard

And I gave Mastro a shot. They are the ones who WANTED to do the consumption test. When I realized the tech was completely lost, I went to the service counter and POLITELY spoke with Rexy and the manager. I let them know that I was unhappy about NOT having a real test done. But in the end, I left because I felt sticking around would just result in arguing. I made goddamn sure that I never brought up any negativity, especially when other cuastomers were present. Hell I even followed through like I said and took em donuts.
When I handed her the key, I made sure and specify "please just make sure that exactly 5.3 quarts of 0w20 go in". That's what I've told the other dealer. It never happens.
I knew something was wrong when the tech came and told me "we got you all set- put a little extra in since all these new ones burn oil".
I just figured, since they didn't really take it too seriously, that was their way of letting me know that there was nothing they could do to help me.
I'm not mad at them, their hands are tied, and if Subaru had properly brought this car to market and been more thorough with R&D, none of this would be going on.

I don't look forward to reading anything by or about you, Zeeper. You're just a lame hank hill type.
Oh, I see in that in THIS thread you want to take the defensive, im-being-picked-on attitude, but you freely insult me at any chanc you get.
You regurgitate the same condemnation of my high-speed trip home from the beach. You're so goddamned lame dude. Go play some shuffleboard or hang out at the senior citizens center! Why don't you make some insulting statement about me going a buck thirty as your signature line, that will reduce typing and help with your old, arthritic fingers.

Subaru did properly bring the car to market, and had excellent R&D. That probably accounts for the steller sales, the positive reviews from tough reviewers at Consumer Reports, and Motortrend, among others, and this small fact:

Widespread oil consumption is not happening. I have no idea of the total sales, but it is over 45,000 new Imprezas in the last 10 months in the United States.

On this forum, which you begrudgingly are beginning to admit has both great internet (google) exposure and the most people discussing the issue (that either of us knows about) there are about 5 independent members who claim oil consumption, bump that up to 10 if you include the few Canadian ones mentioned (but then, bump the total sold number higher as well).

No car manufacturer has 100% perfect production, Subaru seems to be addressing concerns (starting with Oil Consumption tests, and up to, and including engine rebuilds if you believe the Edmunds and Canadian member).

But you don't want to give them time to work it out or help you, and you don't want to talk about EVIDENCE.

You also never want to tie 130mph driving with possible oil consumption.

You are the only one who has admitted testing the top speed of your car, and also happen to have oil consumption. As a former Auto mechanic school student, do you possibly think one could have influenced the other?

It isn't a tough question.

Not sure why you care, this car is sold in Germany with the same engine so a top speed run should not cause an issue after the car has done its first 600 miles.

A friend "fixed" his high oil consumption on a high speed dyno when his new BMW K1300 was using 1 liter oil per 600 miles oil for its first 9 months. After months of playing the usual Dealers " acceptable usage " then " Oil consumption test " mind games one of the mechanics quietly told him but not in writing to take it out for a "high speed" flogging. Obviously the only place he can legally take a 176mph motorbike for a high speed run is on a race track or dyno.

yes yes i read that same story by someone on here. Ive never seen a high speed flogging fix an issue. But ive seen many high speed floggings cause issues, Broken internals mostly. I have personally experienced oil consumption slow down or stop by using a thicker oil. I dont know why you care. It isnt like Letour is taking any ones suggestions or help. Damn he wont even take the help of the dealers.

I think he blocks your posts, he doesn't block mine.

I actually think I am discussing ideas with him, sometimes he gets that.

Actually it was some of my internet research that helped to reveal there are possible engine rebuilds being done -- at least in the states (link to edmunds I posted earlier).

I actually agree that it would suck if my car burned oil, and I would want it fixed. I also know I would be on this forum, having found it on google if I didn't know about it previously.

But I am a bit more of a honey vs vinegar guy. If Subaru was doing an Oil Consumption Test, I would let them do whatever they wanted, and keep plugging away until the car got fixed (given the relatively small number of affected vehicles, I think it will actually happen).

Of course I also wouldn't have pissed off my dealer. In my case there is an incentive, if you let them service your car they give you a free limited lifetime powertrain warranty.

My car doesn't burn oil, so I am doing my own changes. If it had started burning oil, I would happily pay them to change my oil so they would also assume the future liability for the engine.

Immature ranting never gets you far with anyone, from a lowly SOA rep to the mechanic who is trying to help you.

and im the one who suggested it was the warmer weather that can cause the oil to thin out quicker, i found the article and pointed out the Lower tension rings, and suggested he use a thicker oil. Ive come to realize, as you will that any suggestion that is presented he will never act upon. he has no interested in solving the issue or proving that the issue is as bad as he claims it is.

Furthermore. someone that has attended auto school shouldnt be so unwilling to atleast try to solve some of the issues.

It isn't denial, there are more than 5, about 10 if you count the Canadian ones mentioned, and I'm sure more among those not on the forum.

Out of 45,000-75,000 sold (I have no idea how many sold in Canada and US in the past 10 months, do you?)

Do the math,

What percent are affected if you assume 100 imprezas are consuming oil, and 60,000 or so sold?

0.16 percent.

See how that works. Neither of us know the actual number, but given the internet is abuzz, and this site is the place with the most discussion about the issue, I bet 100 is on the high end of the number of cars burning oil...

I know you think at least 10,000 are affected...

So far Consumer Reports, which is conducting a long term drive test, hasn't started warning consumers...

I know for a fact it helped his issue, on tour we used to laugh at him at Gas stations with jibes like check the gas and fill up the oil. The oil usage went from 1 liter / 600miles to 1/2 liter / 600 miles, still not great but much better. It's something to do with their low friction Nikasil bore.

You are correct about one thing Zeeper, although I disaagree with you and I call you an old fart, your posts are a million times more appropriate and intelligent than ausakips. But, that's not saying much
John451- its pointless to argue with those two. They'll just try to bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. Lol
One post will say I was too gentle on my 1200+ mile break-in, others act like I sacrifice babies to satan for grossly exceeding the speed limit on the way home from the beach one time. It doesn't matter that Subaru said to break it in the way they do. And it doesn't matter that my car had thousands of miles on it when I did grossly speed that one time.
No one ragged on Wilson for auto-x'ing his, getting it stuck in mud, modifying rear suspension components, then having it lemon'ed.
They're just bored opportunists who love to argue. And seeing someone as stressed and angry about a major purchase who is vocal is just too tempting for them. Its either that or they work for Soa, but even auskip seems smarter than the numbskulls at soa.

And Zeeper- I HAVE given them time, I've been ignored for at least 7 or 8 months now.
And I think its pretty obvious that all I got friday was a standard 15k service. There isn't any way to gauge consumption, when its way overfilled. There's also no dye. Give them time? Will they fix it before its paid off?? It sure as hell don't look that way from my shoes.

About the guessing how many are oil burners. Are we going to include the folks who don't mind topping off a quart between changes??
Seems like almost everyones burn a LITTLE, but almost everyone seems to find subarus lame explanations of it acceptable. I know there have been a bunch of posts like "mine lost a half quart, but it doesn't bother me". Some even more consumption, and most seem to not care. So are we guessing at numbers for consumption (say half a quart or more) or for GROSS consumption?

Acuras have been using Nikasil bore for many years. Porsche in the 80s used Alumisil bores That is not the issue since they are proven. Its the individual build. Something is on the looser side of the specs or not broken in correctly.

If Bill Bryan was your dealer, Zeeper, you wouldn't care in the least how pissed off they were.
They pretty much sell ya the car and say "have a nice life".
