Default Ever sleep in your car?

How'd you do it and was it comfortable? Found a perfect spot? I'm curious as I'm going on a solo road trip and would like to save money if possible.

I know it's a strange question.

Can you fall asleep uncomfortably?

I've tryed just scooting the seat all the way back and laying down, but that didnt really work for me.

The back seats are too short to lay across and if you have a wagon you can lay the seats down and try that.

How tall are you? Im 6'2 and I literally could not find one comfortable position.

Laid in the trunk with the center seat folded down (sedan). Not comfortable, but better than nothing

Im 5'11" and the best way for me is to have my back against one of the doors with my head on the c-pillar and slouched down.

Not exactly comfortable but for 4-5 hours its better then nothing.

I sleep in my car all to often due to being an ******* when im drunk. I've slept in the drivers seat fully reclinded, the passanger seat recilnded with my feet on the dash, curled up on my back seat, and with my rear seats folded down and my legs in the hatch.

They all suck. The best for me is seats folded down, but I'm 5'7", im used to sleeping on the floor and I own a wagon...

If you really want to cut cost but dont want to hate yourself alternante getting a room and sleeping in your car.

Took a 10 minute nap before my dentist appointment today. I don't know how to describe how I was sitting in the driver seat but I was comfortable. I'm sure your brand new WRX will be much more comfortable than my '97 Impreza with STi seats.

That would do it I'm 5'8. Problem with the front are the bolsters. Sleeping on the foam material is actually quite nice if i had the room.

No easy way to do it. man it out and get a sleep it! wait a minute

I slept in my car two nights ago and it was... ok. Just reclined the front seat all the way back. Took me about 30 min to actually fall asleep. But it eventually happened. Slept decently enough for about 2 hours before waking up to go where I needed to go.

Its an interesting question. Would love to see pictures. haha

Advice?

Put your rear seats down and share the room with your trunk. Try to never sleep in a sitting position when possible, its not healthy... bad for circulation and could cause clots to form which could one day travel to your brain... just keep in mind...

Made a straight-shot trip to TN from NJ and back to pick up my buddy's turbo miata. Slept for 1.5 hours in a 7-11 on the way there, and in a blockbuster for 2 on the way back. I'm 6'4" ~215 and I was pretty comfy in my reclined bugeye driver's seat w/ a pillow.

Then again, It's all a matter of how tired you are and how long you wish to sleep. hahaha.

I take a nap in my car during my lunch break at work. I just recline the driver's seat. Never bothered me much. Always been able to fall asleep fairly quickly.

6'2", roughly 275. I've slept just fine in the passenger's seat...with an air compressor running outside the window...sober... You'll find a spot- way easier to sleep on the passengers side.

I really agree with barnburner about it coming down to how tired you are!

I just sit in the passenger seat fully reclined and feet on the dash or in the foot wells im 5"10 and honestly if your really tired you'll fall asleep in any position.

I had an older forester as a teenager... many fond memories of nights in that car, though there wasn't all that much sleeping going on...

I'm 6'3, and I was perfectly comfortable with the back seats down in the Forester. It's quite doable. I've also passed out in a reclined driver seat a few times on long road trips in the rest area. Not that great but it'll work.

i take a nap in my STI during my lunch break by sleeping in the passenger seat. surprisingly, it reclines very far back. I found some ear plugs that i used at a gun range so i stuff those in my ears, put up the sun shade, put on my sunglasses, and fall asleep (talk about sensory deprivation). I'm 6'3", 190lbs and the passenger side makes for a comfy "bed".

it helps that my office has a garage so it doesn't get too hot, but if it does, i use my plug-in USB mini fan that works like magic.

Zzzz....

The joys of owning a hatch I've only slept in my car once and that was at the track. Wasn't the best but it was better than leaving at 530AM to make it to the track on time.

I do all the time. I'm 6'4". Never used a tent or motel on any of my roadtrips. Bring some pillows/blankets so you can cushion yourself from the seatbelt buckle and door pillar, crack the windows open so you don't fog the interior, and lean the seat back. I usually sleep in the parkinglot of rest areas, but I've used the side of industrial access roads too.

The worst trip was when I had my wagon so full of stuff that I couldn't lean the seat back. I put a backpack stuffed with clothes on the steering wheel and slept slumped over it. On another trip I was sleeping in a rest area in S. Dakota when a wind and rain storm came through in the evening. I woke up, in the drivers seat of course, and the truck is rocking and the rain is blasting down just like I'm doing 70 on the highway. I look to my right and there's a semi truck and trailer there with the mudflaps waving away like he's hauling down the road. I was sure I had just fallen asleep while driving and woke up. Serious adrenaline rush in that confused moment.

If you're on the road more than a week I'd think about a tent, but less than that you can manage just fine.

Keep your keys in you pocket, when you stumble out still half asleep to go for a wake up walk and the door locks behind you it sucks. Keep your feet off the brake pedal when you're sleeping, the lights will drain the battery overnight. I haven't done that but I pulled in and slept for an hour after driving for 30 straight and left my headlights on. On my Tacoma they shut off when you open the door, not when you turn the keys off. That was embarrassing to walk around asking for a jump.

Very interesting responses.

I think I could pull off a decent nights sleep in 2012 WRX hatch.

Very doable. I pulled off a night in a 2010 WRX sedan. Fold back seats down and enjoy being skinny enough to fit half in the trunk. Very comfortable, I'd imagine a hatch is even better.
