Default ECU Exploded

Was cruising on the highway, car was running perfectly fine and all of a sudden completely lost power.
  1. Battery light is on
  2. Oil light is on
  3. Engine light never comes on
  4. Black connector shows no codes or OK code
  5. Black + green connect does not start the diagnostics program
  6. Main relay works
  7. All fuses look good
  8. Ignition switch to the ECU works

Inspected the entire harness and 2 of the O2 wires had melted, not severely but they were exposed. could that have caused the above?

Just realized this is the jumper to use external ROM (I have Rob's tune).

I tried reconnecting it just in case there was maybe something with the ROM and still the same symptoms. I checked the following on the ECU harness -- is there anything I should check? I have no access to a second ECU out here

Hot From Battery -- this is good, 12V
Yellow/Blue ignition ON - Key off: 56k Ohms, 0V. key on: says -36K ohms and -0.40V (positive probe is on the connector)

Maybe.

I had an EJ20G ecu go bad on me. I washed the engine, parked the car and it wouldn't start again. Something must have got wet and shorted somewhere. I found a small burned spot on the board. I never did figure out what caused it.

If the 12 volt O2 sensor heater wires shorted to the 5 volt signal wires it might have damaged the ecu.

was able to get my hands on an ECU and same behaviour.

anyone have _any_ idea what could be wrong? I can feel the main relay clicking, I pulled it out and hooked up to the battery, both sets of leads connect. fuel pump relay doesn't go off but it depends on the ECU so that makes sense.

radio turns on, anti-lock brake light + oil + battery lights are on. I can hear the BSC solenoid click too...

The FSM has a very detailed checklist to troubleshoot this issue.

I'm 99% sure it's the main relay. Even though it's clicking, its power contacts are burnt out. The solenoid side (which is what you are checking by listening for clicks) does not get damaged in the scenario you had. However, the contacts get burnt out.

The main relay has 2 sets of contacts and when testing, it's easy to connect them the wrong way and not get correct test results.

Thanks for the tip. I was able to get my hands on a second relay and same results.

I started to test the harness and found that the 2 solid yellows are connected (0ohm between them) but have no power (they're at 0V). the yellow/blue is connected to the ECU and the yellow/red I'm not really sure. I'm assuming once the relay energizes one solid yellow powers the yellow/red and then the other solid yellow powers the yellow/blue (ECU). however, the only 12V going into the relay harness is the 12V to energize the relay (when key is ON)

if I hotwire the yellow/blue to 12V the car runs and drives fine.

I'm guessing my issue is that the 2 yellow power leads don't have power. but I'm not even sure they're supposed to... I'm assuming that's how it works?
