Default car wont start, getting fuel and spark

95 2.2l

replaced head gaskets t-belt and pulleys 2 weeks ago

ran car for 2 weeks no issues

drove car today, parked it, wouldnt start afterwards

pulled the 2 spark plugs on cylinders closest to the Rad, they were soaked in fuel so i cleaned them off and had a friend turn the car over, both plugs had spark and the car started immediately on 2 cylinders.

reinstalled spark plugs and wire boots, car started right up

there was a check engine light (i am assuming a missfire) code so i disconnected the batt. to clear it.

car will not start again.

1.) I had a coolant temp sensor light days ago that i assumed was from air in the system so i burped it and cleared it. car ran fine after, light stayed off....could the CTS cause the car not to start?

2.) is there any way that there could be too much fuel entering the system and how could i check?

3.) could this be a timing issue?

thanks

never assume what codes are and always read them before erasing them. i.e. if it was a camshaft position sensor code, that could have easily pointed you directly at the problem. My $.02- you assume too much. Assuming is a really bad thing to do while working on cars... it will bite you in the a$$. Trust me on that one.
1 A coolant temp light/sensor will not cause it not to start, but can cause it to run bad.
2 If your fuel pressure regulator went bad, it is possible that you have too much fuel, but that is unlikely... quite unlikely. If your plugs are covered in gas, 95% chance that it is a lack of spark.
3 Yes it could be a timing issue, however, I doubt it. If it either runs fine or not at all, you probably don't have a timing issue, you probably have a ignition problem.
If I were you, I would pull out all the plugs, clean or replace them, and continue to check for spark. I wouldn't be suprized if it was a crank or cam sensor or some loose connection somewhere (like the coil pack...) GLWD (diagnosis)

EXACTLY the same thing just happened to me.

99 Legacy GT 2.5, just got the head gaskets done, as well as timing belt and valve gasket covers.

Had the car for two days, over heating issue was completely gone. The only two problems that I had was a lot of shuddering during wide open throttle, especially if it was uphill. She was also idling around 1k so I was planning on just adjusting the throttle body and then take it back to the shop to fix whatever was causing the shaking.

But before I could do that, on day 2 I started her up after work, she ran for probably 2 minutes and then sputtered to a stop. plenty of gas in the car, tried again 5 minutes later. no results. ended up leaving her in the parking lot over night and the shop came and towed her back free of charge.

anyone have any ideas of what could be the problem?

turns out my problem was a completely wrong fuel gauge. read 1/3rd tank at dead empty and I just got the car not too long ago and have been fixing it for 4 weeks or so. I put fuel in it while trouble shooting but must have not been enough to get pressure.

Shop told me that the timing belt skipped a tooth. So that makes a lot of sense. And it clearly wasn't my fault so thank god I don't have to pay extra!
