If you want to see if it's fubar-ed, then you gotta take it out first. Then shake it (yes in your hands) and listen for something moving on the inside.

If you hear something, the PCV "should" be fine.

If not, you should replace it.

But, given the price of a new one, and you have to take out the old one to check, you might as well put in a new one.

If you have to ask, you should replace.

What kind of answer is that? Anyway, a clogged pcv valve can lead to rough idle, poor acceleration, leaking oil around seals and gaskets due to the increase in crankcase pressure. I had one go bad on my old toyota truck and it caused oil leaks. Toyota decided to hide theirs UNDERNEATH the intake manifold lol. I don't miss working on that truck one bit.

^^It was an extension of my original point - it's better to take it out and check it physically. Plus it's THAT cheap to replace, so if someone is worried if it might be bad, just get it changed.

Simple.

If u do take it out to inspect as when u shake the pcv u should here a rattle. I would then weather it is good take some throttlebody cleaner and just clean it and put it back in and found checking it every 30k instead of every 48k like the dealer recommends will give u piece of mind
