Cool! Did they add anything to prevent the problem from recurring?

Went to the dealer today and they took a look at my driver's seat. Apparently, one of the metal clips for the lumbar support spring snapped in half. They had a spare clip in the shop and just replaced it. I didn't notice too much of a difference but the squeak is still gone... for now anyway.

Btw, the tech who fixed it told me that its a very common problem and they have to replace them all the time. He also said not to be surprised if it or other clips break again or the springs starts to sag.

Come on Subaru... time to implement a new seat design already.

No idea. Didn't talk to the tech or get into it in detail when they checked me out.

I concur! I've emailed SOA with the diagram & suggestion & asked that a TSB be issued. But the real resolution is changing the design/mechanics of these seat parts!

Lol at the NEW seat design. They could do better by outsourcing seats to KIA!
My lazy-boy was my grandads. Its tag says it was made in 87. The springs have seen better days. They sound pretty much like the seat springs in my Impreza. At least my Lazy-boy is comfortable to sit in for over an hour.
Good info, Jrobb, sounds like seats and oil useage are common complaints at Subaru dealers these days.
I've read that the Legacy is getting new seats and fabric this or next year.

Can we keep this thread about the seat only please? We don't need a repeat performance on here.

About 7300 miles now in my Subie and the driver seat just started to squeek. Also, it feels like the support is moving around also. Feels like the lower back of the seat is having the problem and the top where the illustration shows the problem isn't where the squeek is coming from.

Should I call the dealer to check this out?

Mines squeaking lower in the seatback this time, too. I would notify the dealer if I were you.
I truly hope they get some kind of other seat design together. Mines a noisy mess.

Mine has your fix. It worked for a couple months. The cooler weather seems to be bringing it back. Its actually a good bit louder now. Its intermittent. Sometimes its ok for a week or two, then it comes back. Especially if I reach around to the back seat area, reach for my wallet, or otherwise turn my body while seated. The popping feeling is more pronounced now, too. It kinda sounds like an empty plastic water bottle being crushed/twisted.

I find that not having sex on my seats tends to alleviate the squeaking

Mine started squeaking at around 800km (500 miles). Then again, I'm not the lightest guy in the office... :P

It's a general TSB, not under 2012 Impreza specifically.

Service Bulletin #12-142-12
Pages: 3

Bulletin Description: This Bulletin provides a repair procedure to address a customer concern of a squeaking-type sound coming from the driver or passenger front seat back. The flat mat main support rods are covered in paper to prevent metal-to-metal contact with the backrest frame. However, if an edge on the backrest frame damages the paper, metal-to-metal contact will result, creating the squeak. Bushings will need to be installed to prevent the condition. This procedure eliminates the need to replace the backrest frame.
