Default Celery's 2002 Bugeye and 2016 FXT

I traded in my 2015 WRX for a 2016 Forester XT touring back in October and on monday I bought a 2002 WRX to replace our second car(2006 civic coupe).

The FXT has 18x8.5 +45 enkei ts10 wheels with goodyear eagle F1 asymmetric 2 265/45-18s
Michelin X-ice on the stock wheels
Whiteline 22mm RSB

Bugeye has a cobb catback, downpipe, mbc, bov and I think a turboxs utec(the last three will be most likely be replaced shortly). Also 225/50-16 falken azenis rt-615k tires

My old 2015

How do you like the Forester XT compared to the 2015 WRX? I know they are completely different but I was considering a Forester XT when i traded in my '14 hatch, but the test drive sold me on the '16 WRX.

Sucks you had to get rid the the 2015 wrx, but great find on the bugeye. Low miles and awesome color.

The fxt is a much more relaxed driving experience than the 15 wrx. It's still pretty amusing and the cvt works well enough but you don't get the flat cornering that the wrx has. I'm not sure if it's the cvt or the engine differences but the power delivery in the fxt is much smoother. The wrx has better seats, even though my wrx had cloth and the fxt has leather, the fxt seats are just flat and you slide all over the place if you take a corner hard. The ride quality of both the fxt and bugeye is way better than the 15 wrx but supposedly the 16 isn't quite as punishing.

its 5mt, I can't believe I found one in such good shape after the two previous junk pile GD's I was looking at. One was an 03 with 120k that had bondo everywhere and the other was a seemingly nice 05 with 110k that failed a compression test pretty badly.

The 15 was ok but I prefer the forester for the type of driving we do most of the time(mainly baby hauling).

Well, awesome job scooping this up and putting it into good hands. Quite possibly the best color on 02-03 and 06-08's. LOVE srp

I don't like red either. My girlfriend has a Mazda 3 in the same color, not a fan of it on her car, but for some reason it looks damn good on a bugeye.

So now that I've had all three wrx generations I figured I'd try to make a pros and cons list. Keep in mind I'm farthest removed from the 2011 so it's not that fresh in my head.

2002
Pros:
Best sounding(granted mine has a turbo back but I've driven a couple stock gd's and the exhaust sound seems to come through more where as in the the 2011 there was a lot more gear whine).
Most supportive seats.
Most comfortable ride.
Most raw feeling.
Shifter seems the best but I may have a short shifter, haven't checked.
Heavy steering feel.
Lightest.
Feels like you are driving something special.
Not nearly as noisy as I expected when cruising and no really noticeable rattles.
Real lsd.
Feels like a bit more of a driver's car than the others.

Cons:
Most raw feeling
Body roll
No fold down rear seat.
Stands out more and feels a bit immature
Worst low end torque and most turbo lag.
Brakes seem weaker than the 2011 but the have junky duralast pads so it could just be that.
Seat bolsters make getting in and out a bit more annoying.
Smaller backseat.
Can be a bit tiresome to drive.

2011
Pros:
Fastest out of the box.
Nicest stock wheels.
Probably the smoothest powerband.
The widebody hatch body style is pretty sweet although not my favorite.
Probably the easiest to drive, even though the 15 have more easily accessible torque, the way the gears are spaced and less touchy clutch engagement makes it a bit easier than the 15.
Good mix between the rawness of the 02 and refinement of the 15.

Cons:
Most rattles.
Kind of hollow feeling.
Hideous clear tails on the hatch.
Pointless quad exhaust.
Light steering.
Worst steering wheel.
Worst seats.
Worst interior overall I think.
No automatic option 09-14 unless you count the 09-10 impreza GT...probably a pro actually

2015
Pros:
Quietest.
Best mpg.
Roomiest.
Best handling.
Supportive seats that aren't as hard to get in and out of as the 02.
Least turbo lag and best low end torque.
Shifter is pretty good with the kartboy ss but it does make shifter effort pretty high.
Nicest interior with decent tech(even more so for 2016).
6 gears.
Best steering wheel.
Best steering ratio.
Largest trunk.

Cons:
Worst ride quality.
High seating position.
Lumpy powerband.
Very hard to drive smoothly.
No one likes how it looks or sounds. (I don't mind either but you constantly have to hear about it).
Feels like a more mundane car.
Pointless quad exhaust with no rumbrollz.
No hatch/wagon option.

I can't really say I have a favorite or a least favorite. The 11 seems like my least favorite but I had the most time with it to build up complaints. I think it's possible that I would like the Hawkeye best but I haven't actually driven one so I can't comment. I do have some 4 pot brakes ready to go on the wrx.

Interesting review of the 3 models, I guess the quietness and mainstream looks of the 2015 makes it feel less special than the others.

You're right about the 2015 being difficult to drive smoothly, I find it requires constant concentration or else it gets kind of jumpy between shifts.

I think the 11 and the 15 both feel more mainstream.
Which is both good and bad.
