Default Factory JDM turbo????

So iI just pulled the turbo off my new-to-me JDM 2.0, and the stamp on the turbo says its a TD04L...

I've dug lightly into this...but isn't that the standard turbo for USDM 2.0s?? From a thread I found earlier, this turbo in theory should be a VF22 maybe?? Some help would be great before I do any more work, if I got scammed on a motor.

Big question u need to ask is the motor really a jdm motor the td04L 13t came standard on USDm 02-07, td0L 19t came standard on the USDm my08, vf22 came standard on jdm v3 wrx and the wrx Sti 22b. Sounds like u need to talk to the person u bought ur motor from and figure out what he sold u

JDM WRX wagons had lower output, perhaps this also meant a smaller turbo.

1999 JDM WRX wagon claims 240 PS vs. the 280 PS of the WRX and Type-RA. That's ~235 HP, which is certainly within the realm of possibility of a TD04, given the USDM 227 HP claim for USDM 2.0L and the difference in gasoline quality between the US and Japan.

I wouldn't completely rule out a TD04 from being a standard JDM turbo. It's possible they weren't lying to you but simply (conveniently) omitted that this was a wagon engine.

I think the wrx of that year has a td05 variant turbo.

Umm... I did.

EJ205
This engine series is used for non-Japanese marketed WRX models in the world market as of 1999. The Japanese WRX models use the EJ207 from 1999~2001, except the 5-door wagon which also uses the EJ205
My bet is he got a JDM WRX wagon, which does appear to have come with a TD04 as far back as 96.

There's always one!

It's tough to get info on it, someone on ScoobyNet is bound to know. Td05 were on early wrx's but does look like it was the td04 on the 99 wrx.
