Default EJ20K running rich

So my car is all running now with Apexi PowerFC and tuned up and it's running super rich I believe. After cruising a few miles, there's a bunch of soot in my tailpipe. I was getting horrible gas mileage for a while, then I filled up at a Texaco later and it was doing just fine?

At times, it smells like it's catless, but it isn't; it's stock downpipe.

The car does fine at low speeds in the lower gearing, but struggles on hills particularly and higher speeds. It sputters and struggles, and I can definitely hear the BPV sputtering while trying to make boost. Why is this?

Cruising at about 60, it does great and I get pretty good gas mileage.

Mods:
-Apexi N1 catback
-Apexi Power Intake
-Walbro 255 fuel pump
-Apexi PowerFC

Last time I checked, the spark plugs were clean, but should i check them now?

Can you distinguish closed from open loop?

Well, these terms are still a little new to me.

It seems to be struggling a little above 3000 rpm on hills (open loop?) and bogs down, slowly making it up.
So it's a little difficult to tell the difference.

Idles just fine.

IIRC, the PFC doesn't use closed loop like a factory ECU. It only tries to use closed loop on cells programmed with 14.7:1 (or very close to it).

Most of the advice I have been given is to disable closed loop altogether until you like your map.

I feel so dumb right now, but SO relieved.

The BPV hose popped off and it was just hidden enough for you to think it's attached.

I attached it and runs like a charm now. Even runs like normal now on hills.
However, at high boost, it pops off...I'll find a better solution.
Check engine light flashes too, but I remember the tuner told me because 18.2 psi is a lot for a VF24.

Flashing CEL on a PFC usually means knock is above the programmed threshold.

Is there any way to get rid of that?

If it's real knock, you need to tune it out.

If it's false knock, either Apexi's software or Datalogit software will allow you to change the value that it flashes at. The handheld Commander does not have access to this parameter.

I had it professionally tuned, so I hope it's not the tune issue.

It does have the FC Datalogit.

the flashing CEL could be one of 3 things. your maxing out your injectors, your maxing out your MAF sensor, or you're hitting your knock count threshold which is 60 out of the box but can be set to whatever you choose.

at 18psi, I'm willing to bet your MAF is at its limits

It's at max boost, my tuner said. It would make sense my MAF is also at it's limit as well.

I'm guessing 18 psi is definitely the max of the VF24.

Would it be bad if I got a turboback?

How could that possibly be a bad thing?

I would find out why your PFC is flashing the CEL first before any more modifications.

I realized there's a good chance you could be maxing out your injectors too/instead. I'm running 1.2bar(17.4psi) on my VF28 with stock 550cc injectors. At WOT my injector duty is hitting mid 90's. That's after leaning out my A/F ratio to 10.6-10.8 : 1.
