I'm not entirely sure what bro-dude's really are as I don't live in California. I know people refer to them a lot, but we don't have them on the eastcoast as far as I'm aware.

Rally America tried to get into X-Games (the only US coverage of the sport) and the only way it works is in a smaller format like GRC. Rally is very difficult to make a spectator sport as it is spread out over miles and miles.

Rally America only has one manufacturer team, Subaru. Outside of that it is all privateers. Rally America has zero TV coverage.

WRC, we can't race in WRC as the rules don't allow for longitudinal engines. You have to change the rules first.
All of that is true to one degree or another. But what I am saying is that GRC does not make a huge impact on sales. Most of the saggy pants watchers of that junk cannot afford a car in the first place (yes, that is a first class A number 1 stereotype).

Subaru will sell WRX's and STI with or without GRC or WRC in the US.

I think the rules may be changing to allow Subaru back in to WRC. They have said multiple times they are planning to get back into it with the new WRX whenever it comes out.

It may not impact sales in the present, just as Subaru's WRC participation in the past probably didn't impact sales in a huge way at that time. They did influence future buyers, just as they will influence future buyers with their participation in X Games and GRC events.

Also, a lot of future Subaru buyers were big fans of Gran Turismo's rally stages. GT has sort of died as it takes 12 years for each new version.

Now, with the DiRT series, a new generation is getting a chance to fall in love with Rally and Subaru (especially since you can't buy an awd fiesta).

I think you guys are vastly overestimating the market saturation with games like Dirt

Gran Turismo was a once in a lifetime thing. It completely changed the rule books on driving sims. It had a huge impact. No other driving came has even come close to being a market redefining driving game like that. Forza is just Gran Turismo rebooted. And Dirt, although fun, is hardly doing anything new that was not done better by Collin McRea Rally.

These game are great, and I was around when Subaru mentioned Gran Turismo by name as one of the reasons they brought over the RS and WRX. But that is done. They are here, and they are no longer forbidden fruit. You only get introduced once.

Sure there will be some sales generated, but I would wager just a bunch of good commercials would do the same...

This one commercial probably sold more cars than anything kenny blockhead or mirra, or anybody else combined ever did.

While I agree that that commercial definitely made an impact and helped to instill a connection to the WRX for many of us, there are generations of buyers that will never know the ad existed.

Games like Dirt may not drive a significant number of sales, and they may not be groundbreaking, but again there are generations that will have never played the original Gran Turismo or Collin McCrea Rally. It's a matter of what was new and hot in those areas when the individual was into it.

I think you might underestimate just how much exposure and excitement for a product is created by modern marketing. Whether you are a fan of Ken Block or not, there's no argument that his videos get massive exposure and a record number of views on the web. The fact that icons like Pastrana, Block, Mirra, and Lasek all drive or have driven Subarus will be a factor in the love of Subaru or the desire to own one for many individuals. It may not be the basis for a vast majority of purchases, but it will have an influence. I'm sure it's part of a diverse marketing strategy.

It will be interesting to see how that strategy evolves as Subaru gets back into motorsports more heavily as they have stated they plan to.

Never said it will have no influence, but marketing to should be targeted to those with expendable income TODAY, not 5 years from now, as you know kids these days are very flavor of the month. What they like today could be totally changed tomorrow if something else catches his/her eye.

I agree 100% with your last statement though. I am looking forward to subarus plans.

Hey guys. Puma is currently offering 40% most of their shoes... unfortunately the promo code doesn't work for the new Rally Edition shoes... but there are far better looking shoes on their site. Just enter promo code - PUMASAVE40
at check out.
Not sure how long it will last.

edit:
Valid Thursday 6.21.12 - 6.25.12

I just got mine yesterday. Puma takes forever to ship, by the way. 7 dollar shipping took them two weeks to get to my house.

I got the 70 dollar shoes for 40% off with the Friends & Family discount so it came out to be around $53 after tax and shipping. Not bad.
