Default Mini Paceman JCW leaked

Quote:
These are the first photos of the new Mini Paceman John Cooper Works.

The hottest Paceman has more exaggerated styling than the Cooper S on which it is based. These pictures, shown days before the modelís expected official announcement, show more intricate side skirts and larger tailpipes.
Inside, the Paceman John Cooper Works receives some branding but appears otherwise identical to the Cooper S.

No performance data has been released, but the car will share the same 1598cc turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the Countryman Cooper S. Engine upgrades have reportedly increased power by 34bhp, and torque by 30lb ft to 207lb ft over the standard Cooper S. That model produces 215bhp and 207lb ft for a 7.0sec 0-62mph time and a 140mph top speed.
The standard JCW is thought to be offered in a front-drive configuration, with four-wheel drive as an option.

As for me, I'd like to own a Mini as a daily driver one day. They are fun cars to drive, and dare I say more so than either of my Evos or STIs.

What is the difference between this and the regular cooper S? where does the paceman fit in the line up?

I'll provide some brief cover fire. I drove a MCS and loved it very much. It was more intimate than an STi or WRX. So IMO, it was more fun to drive. I've never driven an Evo, so I can't reference that one.

Essentially, it's a Countryman coupe.

Will Mini ever fix their horrible interior design/materials choice?

Larger interior I imagine and AWD as an option.

I think I smile as much or more in my R56 S as I did in my STi or very much modded Rex Wagon.

I traded my STI hatch in on an R56... It's superior at everything (from DDing to autocross to light track use) but launches, corner exits (at the track.. Open diff ) and interior volume. I've even had less repairs to make.

The AWD Paceman is a weak attempt to compete with your R.

It's much bigger and heavier than the Cooper while using the same engine. Pointless.

Ah, I must have missed the AWD part,

Now I get it, but not really...

seems pointless

Oh, here's a size comparison between a Cooper and a Countryman..

The Paceman will just be a 2-door version of the Countryman.

Your definition of "superior" must include "slower".

I have autoxed and tracked a turbo S. Is a ton of fun and a great car, but they are slower, period. Except perhaps in certain tight autox courses.

I would have likely ordered a new S if they wouldn't have eliminated the option for a LSD (the one I autoxed and tracked was an '07 and had one.)

Did the fat female population push the development of the countryman in the first place?

I wish BMW would just kill off mini. They did well with bringing it back, and it was fun.

It has just become so repetitive and boarding. Every model is the same as the last, even when it isn't.

Maybe they could try their hand at another classic English brand? Triumph would be nice.

I've driven an MCS also and it was more fun than my 06 Sti. Only negative was it was slower. I would buy that car though

A cup of tea for me, it is not. The only current Mini I could consider is the new coupe in at least the "S" trim. That center speedo would have to go though. Wow...

I like it.

2 doors, turbo, AWD, manual, a car in the WRC. . . sounds familiar. . .

Brilliant. They are great cars, and a blast to drive. They are diluting the band with all these variants but it is cheap for them to do and they are selling well.

I meant from an enjoyment standpoint. Sorry.. I didn't mean to imply that a MCS is as fast as an STI... but that is the way it looks when we're all so used to magazine racing here in New & Rumors. My bad.

That said, my '08 STI was a horrible autocross car... just horrible. Couldn't turn.. couldn't ever build boost in time to exit a corner. The MCS is a completely different story.. it's balanced, easy to throw around, has excellent turn in and my biggest problem when autocrossing is taking it easy on corner exits so as not to roast the front tires. Keep in mind, my STI was stock and my MCS is wearing some bushings and AST 5200s. It was still leaps and bounds ahead (in handling and enjoyment) when it was stock, though.

How dare you sir...how dare you say an STI is inferior in any way. Have you not seen the magazine numbers!?

The nerve!

How dare you indeed!
