Default Looking for bodywork and paint.

Hey there folks, I'm looking for a person to do some repair/restoration on my 1979 GMC. A couple shops I called weren't interested in the project since most places do collision work solely. Anyone know a person/shop interested in working on a older project that needs some TLC cab corners may need replacing etc?

Fastlane, if you're out there is this something you're interested in doing?

Ressurecting a dead topic, or, one overdone at least, is this contact still valid? Looking to have a trunk painted and very minor touch-up done.
I've only been able to find somewhat decent reviews for Spruce Park and Murkels, I'm very concerned because the yellow on mine is extremely difficult to match, and understanding it won't be perfect match, I'd like at least the closest I can get with good quality. Midtown had done my covers and scoop and they're already chipping away. Thank god they're gone...

I would definitely stick to Murkels for that OEM yellow.

Yup that is Kevin's cell number. He was talking about moving out of Wasilla to Anchorage so not sure on the timeline of that.

Spruce Park had my truck for SIX months after a lady ran a stop sign and hit me. The truck needed about $5000 of parts/work and they ended up milking the insurance for over $16,000 (yes, that's not a typo). That was on a 1998 Ram 2500 with 235,000 miles... worth maybe $13k on a good day.

The work they did was fine though through the whole process I was constantly fed with lies. They even told me that they couldn't get parts for my truck.... one of the most common trucks made. I made some calls and EVERYTHING was available... most locally even.

At one point I got pissed and drove down there, was about 3 months into them having it. They had told me the truck was going to paint in a few days. It was sitting in the back lot with about 2 feet of snow on it, hadn't been TOUCHED.

I ended up tearing the owner about 3 a-holes. The whole time my truck was sitting out back I was having to borrow trucks from people. I actually USE my truck!

After they started working on it I went back to check a few times and they would not let me look at it. They insisted on emailing me photos that seemed to be taken at only certain angles.

In the end they had to replace two batteries, they let the ones in my truck go way dead and freeze.

They stole almost $400 of diesel and made the insurance pay for it. I had filled the truck two days before it got hit, 85 gallons of fuel. When I went to pick the truck up, it was bone dry, fuel light was on, needle on E.

They broke a taillight while they had the truck and tried to pass it off that it was like that. In the end, made the insurance pay for it.

They punctured one of my tires with a tool and tried to hide it by stuffing a bunch of tire plugs in the slash. Insurance had to pay for a pair of tires, ~$700.

Wow, that's pretty awful. I just got back from them today, in order to paint my new trunk, they're wanting 1,300. That's even after I remove the tail lights, rear bumper cover, and wet sand and prep the new bumper. Just labor for painting the trunk and matching to the quarter panels. Able auto said they would do it for 1,100 but didn't want me to do any of the prep work. Which I thought was odd. They also said they'd do the trunk alone for $370.

I have yet to find Murkels. Is there a phone number or address to work with?

It's Markels, it's off of lake Otis near 68th.

I love their work. They even paint matched satin white pearl..

Lol it's Markels. Not murkels. Might be why you can't find a number.

I can vouch for their quality. I didn't have much done, but a small fender bender. Paint matched perfectly and everything. Had my car back in 2 weeks. Friendly staff in the office too, which goes a long way in my book.

Many times a body shop doesn't want a customer to do the prep work because it has to be redone or even fixed.

Example, the customer repairs a ding with some cheap filler and 3 months down the road the filler fails trashing the paint job. Who is the customer pissed at themselves or the body shop?

I used Spruce Park because several people talked well of them and they were on the insurance's list as well. In the end the work they did was fine, I have no issues with that at all.

It was all of the lying and milking the insurance that was complete crap... plus taking 6 months to repair a bedside, cab corner and front bumper on a 2500 Ram.

Checked out Spruce park, and I'd be looking at $1,800 to paint the trunk, they want to redo rear quarter panels, remove tons of parts, and redo the paint along all the door linings up to the front fenders. I was able to talk it down slightly if I removed the bumper myself, removed the taillights, etc, but unable to get it under $1,400.

Able said they would do it for $1,200, but refused to touch it if I did any of the prep work ( panel removal ) so, not much talking around there. They said $400 if I wanted it painted to the best of their ability on the car w/out blending.

Ugh... Yellow is a pain in my rear. Mostly because my wallet is in that pocket.

Been getting some feedback from Able saying they're customer service is poor. Jobs are put off for extended periods of time, bad communication, no follow through. Everything everyone doesn't want from someone handling their car...

They probably do the best for shops in town! But there hourly is the highest of all the shops. You get what you pay for though.
