If you can stand the drive, Hall's Auto Body in Palmer has done me right on several repairs - minor and major. Their work has been awesome in my book.

Also, they are a USAA Preferred Shop and have been for over a decade. That is no easy feat.

We have plenty. People just don't feel like paying the prices that come with good work. What's new when it comes to the auto world?

If you cannot afford the cost now, save up for when you can. Least then you won't have to turn back and look at it with regret as to why you cut corners.

Do they have higher standards or something from a shop? Because I've never seen where an insurance company cares about the customers best interest.

The drive doesn't offend me so much, fortunately I work close to home, so I can afford to go without my car a few days, but again, driving out for an estimate would be the downer, hopefully they can accommodate an over-the-phone estimate and keep it somewhere close. I'll definitely check them out. Thanks again everyone for the input and suggestions. Looking forward to getting the car into better paint shape then it's ever been since I've owned it (=

You could always pull a Chano and just plasti-dip the entire car until you're ready for paint

I also forgot to suggest something that you may want to consider.

Based on the prices you're finding for just this particular section, I think you should consider possibly holding off till November Black Friday. For the price quotes you're getting you could get a full vinyl wrap for the same price during CCA's Black Friday Special and have the entire car done in any color you'd like, carbon fiber look, etc.

Granted it's awhile away but it could be an opportunity to go with a different color or even a different/similar shade of your current one + look refreshed entirely.

Actually they do. USAA is extremely customer oriented and expects quality work.

With their approved shops, the craftsmanship and quality of repair are guaranteed as long as you own the car.

If a shop is sub-par an insurance company isn't going to put themselves at that risk with such a guarantee. And a shop doesn't earn that status doing **** work.

ER...MAH...GERD... CERBUN FERBER.

I would do it just for the short term shock value lol. But on a cereal note, I have considered that in the past. Worst case scenario it can be removed later down the line once I decide to say fudge it and have the whole car painted OEM colour.

If the number is still valid, I'll give it a shot.

Paul's Body Shop does good work, I send my customers to him and they're satisfied with prices and quality. 349-5713. As far as small projects, I don't know but he's always been really polite and helpful when I have stupid questions.

I was under the impression Pauls Auto was gone, they sold the building to another company so I thought they were gone. So they just relocated.

A lot of replies here are about expense, If quality is my primary concern are there any exceptional experiences recently?

I haven't been in the Anchorage Autobody "scene" for the better part of a decade, but a general rule I follow is that the smaller the shop (speaking in terms of volume) the better the final product. Production shops have a "production" quality; i.e. it looks decent to the customer, it's out the door. Whenever I do paint work I tend to over deliver and make sure I go the extra mile, simply because my name is on that product, not just the shops. Good luck in your search!

Crazy seeing this post back up at the top. I sold the dually after owning it for over a year, to a older gentleman that was interested in doing a complete resto on it.

I've been slowly chipping away at my STi, and hopefully should have the engine bay and trunk ready for paint by the beginning of the year. In the mean time I've been working on the motor, and bundling stuff up for chroming, PC, etc. I agree completely with AKGT, finding individuals to do the work is usually the hardest part... I would like to colorchange the whole car, not just do a hack job... If I can't find someone that can do that I'll be keeping it the same color but I think I've been put into contact with the right person for the job.

Plus it helps that I'm not in a hurry to get the car up and running anymore.

That motor is looking VERY nice!

I wish I was back down in Anchorage, seems like there is lots of work right up my alley within the Subaru community. Here's some stuff I've done in the past:
