Default Perrin 3" DP

I have done my fair share of searching the forums and I have come up with some conflicting information regarding the compatibility of the Perrin Catted downpipe with the stock STI catback exhaust.

I have a 2010 WRX STI hatchback.

I have gathered that the perrin DP is 3" from turbo flange to exhaust flange, and doesn't taper down to 2.5" like some competitor's products. Is this true?

If the above is true, how then does Perrin claim that the 3" pipe will bolt directly to the "stock and aftermarket" cat-backs? Is a 3"-2.5" adapter needed to accomplish this? I want to avoid turbulence caused by mating a 3" to a 2.5"... Is the perrin downpipe really a good choice for me if i plan to run the stock exhaust?

my questions were addressed by an extremely professional tech on Perrin.com

I wanted to give a shout out to Perrin Customer Service because they were able to answer my question right away, and put me in touch with a tech who knew exactly what they were talking about.

The Perrin 3" downpipe has a 3" flange to attach to the exhaust. You can flip over the stock "donut" gasket and mash it into the 3" flange to mate it to the stock (2.5") exhaust. Not exactly "race-grade" but it works and doesn't leak. Build quality and welds are outstanding on this pipe, plus the divorced flange on the turbo side offer a more stock-like configuration than some "bell mouthed" downpipes do. Subaru has the wastegate seperated for a reason in my humble opinion.

Im hoping this well help defend against boost creep when i throw on the 3" turbo back.

There are also 3"-2.5" adapters that would provide a less turbulent connection, but your tailpipes may stick out a little more with this in the mix.

I plan to go full 3" turbo back in the future and i would rather have the jerry-rigged setup for now, knowing that the 3" flange will mate up perfectly with an aftermarket 3" whenever i finally get around to picking one out.
