My point being I have nowhere near the skill to take apart my interior even to try and fit it around the stock units... I also would rather not give my car over to someone who never fabricated the new upholstery and tell them to tear the inside apart and install the new stuff lol

So previously, I was running a 2 way passive front stage with custom a pillars that housed a single tweeter. As you can see by the new interior upgrade, it is now a 3 way system that is going to be setup active.

To setup a 3 way active front stage, you have to get an external processing unit and delete the passive crossovers. I decided to use the new JBL MS-8 as it has an onboard amp that can power the tweeters and mid range on the pillar while I can power the mid basses in the doors and the sub off my existing amp. The plan is to get another 4x100 full range class D (probably another Hertz HDP 4) to power the pillars, but this will work in the meantime to get everything running.

The JBL MS-8 is a pretty impressive piece of equipment. It came down the Audison Bit One and this unit, but the ease of setup really sold me on the MS-8 along with some reviews from some fellow audio geeks. The unit comes with a LCD control display and you actually wear a set of headphones with mics on each side to setup the listening positions in the car.

Everything is hooked up and sounds great so far. I still have a lot of tuning to do before it will be where I want it. But it fits under the seat and gets the job done. Here is a teaser of some of the fab work I am in process of completing for the LCD display. It is going to sit flush mounted to the center console where the S drive would usually be.

Is the shift, and e-brake boots something we could buy from JPM pre-fabricated?

The biggest gain for our Canadian customers would be to find businesses interested in stocking orders in the country. This would save everyone considerable headache on duties, shipping costs and times, etc.

Shoot me a PM with what you are interested in!

Alex

From what I understand, and maybe I'm wrong, what changes is the top part of the center console, the cup holder with the slider lid and the part where the traction knob goes. Can you tell me from this pic whether I would need to buy the whole console, or just the cup holder and top part?:

As for the traction knob, I would just do a cover, and add something like the op did...

You basically need everything except 11, 12, 23, 25, 26, 27, assembly 5 (the armrest) and 28 (S Drive controller).

The easiest (and much cheaper way) is to find a used one from a Subaru repair shop or junk yard.

Ok. Found a few...

Another thing I found is people talking about the 05 Legacy center console swapped by the 08 STi's console. Couldn't find many pics, just people saying they did it, an issue with the front of the console not matching properly with the shifter trim and that it doesn't fall properly secured... Something that shouldn't be that big of a deal to solve.

Here's a thread: http://www.3gwrx.com/forum/index.php?topic=10969.0, and here's a guy from cardomain who did it with the STi center console: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/398249...4d#39824944007, which he also says he had to use parts from the Legacy console as well...

You have to change your shifter surround to the STI one as well if you want everything to line up correctly. The STI center console is higher than the WRX one.

OK. I can see the difference while looking at the pics is this thread. The STi center console looks like it continues straight up to the shifter trim, as where the WRX console curves down right when it reaches the shifter trim. Also, the ebrake boot looks lower than the shifter trim on the STi console.

Would all this be the same case for the 05 Legacy center console? Looking at some pics, the Legacy console looks like it also curves down when it reaches the shifter trim, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

Ok... So I finally did the swap. I got the 05 Legacy center console. I didn't want the STi one because I'm not an STi, and because I didn't want the STi light either...

Yes, I know it's dirty... I KNOW... It will be receiving some love next week on my free days...

There were 2 issues:

1- Front mounting spots don't match in height, and there's only one in the Legacy. I solved this by using a 1-5/8" wood screw in angle, but I forgot to take a pic.

2- The space for the heater switches on the Legacy console needs to be cut as it bumps with the second front mounting point, the one that's a clip in the WRX. Didn't take a pic of this either...

I left the switch cover (without the switches) as I might do a comm port there with usb ports and prolly the Innovate serial port.

Another thing was the pocket, the one with the armrest. The WRX one fits perfectly on the Legacy console, but the Legacy cup holder won't fit with it. I might try to modify the WRX one so I can use it instead, but I see no point because I no longer have the factory radio, so the AUX port would be useless.

I currently have my armrest because the ebay seller didn't send what was pictured in the listing, so I'm waiting for that to arrive.

Other than that, everything fits fine.

I'll be testing a WRX and STI center console tomorrow to see what specifically is required from a minimal perspective (versus ordering the whole kit-and-kaboodle). I believe that it is going to be the sti cup holders, the sti console upper, the sti shifter surround and the sti console "pocket" (where the AUX switches are). The WRX console pocket is the limiting factor as to why the STI cup holders will not install.

Regards,
Alex

I went with the Legacy console because I don't want any STi badging since I don't have an STi. I'd imaging everything should fit if all parts used are from the STi.

I bought a complete 2005 Legacy center console.

All parts are "swapable" between the wrx's and legacy console. The cupholder on the wrx comes attached to the whole top part, as were the legacy cupholder can be removed from the top part, so you would need the complete top part to chang cupholders.

The pocket were the aux port and car lighter adapter are on the wrx has a bigger framing around it (seen when it's fully apart) which prevents the rolling door cupholder to fit in the wrx console. You would loose the aux port unless you modify the legacy console to add it, or cut the wrx pocket under the armrest enough so that the cupholder fits.

I have to take it out again to clean it a bit better, so I'll do a side by side comparison in pics to show you. It'll be a couple of days before I do because of work though...

To make it easier, I've placed all the Legacy console parts left, and WRX's right. I'll give a brief explanation of the details after each one. Now, this is not the STi center console, but it's a solution if the STi like cup holder is wanted.

There are no rattles, and the console doesn't pop out of place. Since I chose the console in black, I decided to wrap the shifter trim and the rest of the removable dash trims in 3M matte black vynil. Will do a photoshoot soon...
Dude...I don't mean to be an ass...but I was planning on adding more to this thread as I got more done to the interior as it is my progress thread on the project. You really should have posted this in your own thread and not here.
