Question Yamaha R6 owners....

I'm wondering what you are all paying for insurance? I do my 2.5RS through progressive, but they qouted me $415/month just for a 2001 R6 (plus the $231/month i already spend on my Impreza). State farm is qouting me a bit over $100/month for the bike and $407/month for the impreza. Besides you rates, who are you with?

Scott

BTW, I'm doing this because I can buy the bike for $5000 , or an R1 for $6000.

If you don't carry insurance on every vehicle you drive, you are a complete and total moron.

:monkey:

I am financing the bike, so of course I will have full coverage And I agree with SubEd, it's just not worth it to drive without insurance.

I was paying 1400 a year on a 2002 CBR600F4i, but they just sent me a notice saying my rates have increased to 3200 a year. I just got a quote from State Farm, and they want about 750 a year. They'll let me know if I'm aproved in a week.

This is full coverage, $1000 deductable, I'm 24, no tickets, no accedents, and I've taken the MSF class.

I'm paying 150 a year on my SV650

It's still for sale if anyone's looking for a bike.

See, I'm 22 with 3 speeding tickets , and haven't taken the MSF class, actually I don't even know how to ride a motorcycle I figure I'll learn later. I am going to go sign up for the MSF class at the local college (only $100 and you get your endorsement for passing).

Wow, that really hurts. If you must get the R6, take a MSF safety course ASAP! It will lower your rates slightly. It's the "zero years of experience", combined with the R6's crash rate that will hurt your wallet.

I wouldn't recomend an R6 for starter bike. (and I'm sure others will agree)

Buy my SV650 instead. 9k miles, it gets 50MPG, cheap insurance, and only $3700

None of the insurance companies know I have zero years experience....not one has even asked if I knew how to ride and it's not a must...it's just a toy If I can't find decent insurance, I'll pass it up and take my MSF class, then look for another one. I just love this bike, and only $5000

That's a good price, but trust me, they will ask and possibly verify your experience.

Does anyone have that ad for the R6 with the blue Rated R backround? I think that'll make a decent desktop for the time being

Angry

you don't even know how to ride, but you have to get an R6?!

You're the reason that peoples rates are as high as you've been quoted.

You'll drop it within a month.

Don't mean to be a dick, but you're not being intelligent about the whole thing, and people like you have a name. It's called "Squid". Get used to hearing it.

Yes...what JGard said....or, you can just give it to me and I'll watch it for you until you are ready for it

(JGard...you can play with the R6..I'll trade it for the SV650 )

OK, yeah I willl lay it down....everyone does....and when I do, I'll buy new fairings. There is no way in heck I'm letting my insurance company know if I lay it down (unless I destroy it). and besides, I am buying it and putting it in a garage till the end of winter. By then I'll have completed my class, and have my endorsement:monkey: I have no intention of learning on this bike, but it will be my first bike.

Umm, I think when its your first bike you are pretty much learning on it The school is just a prerequisite.

Wink i need to get my liscense

I want to get either a Honda CBR 600 used, or yeah an r6. It doesnt help for insurance that it would be my first bike. But man do i want one so badly. I cant wait until i finally get my liscense, damn my caring parents, who dont want to sign the sheet to allow me to learn. Im 15 .

Take an MSF class, and get your licence ASAP. It doesn't matter if you have a bike, or if you've ever ridden before. Take the class. Then if you don't get a bike till your 20, you've had your licence for 3 or 4 years, and insurance companies equate that to 3 or 4 years of riding experiance, and your rates won't be so bad.

Don't start out on a CBR 600 or an R6. Get a used Ninja 250 / 500. learn to ride it. It'll still be faster than anything you've been on before. You can even take that bike on track days. A good rider on a ninja 500 will be able to smoke a new rider on a 600 sportbike on a track. I've seen a video of an SV650 catch and pass an R1 at Thunderhill raceway.

Yes that was another reason I want to take my msf class now. The main problem is just getting signed up for one, most classes i know of are full a month ahead of time, then there is allways the obstacle of my parents having to sign a release form for me Ah, i think i can do it, while in the mean time i am trying to convince my mom that the wrx is the car for her (and she wants a lexus Man do i want that rex)
