I would suggest an affordable muffler replacement. That is the real cork for the sound you are looking for.

Could be good. You're going to need someone to install it, so you may also consider a Dynomax or Magnaflow from a muffler shop instead, unless you've heard the muffler you're interested in.

Iv noticed the magnaflow seems to be popular, must have a nice tone to it? Any experience?

I have not personally, but I'm considering it for my 97. A Dynomax I had on my 93 Turbo with no catalysts sounded nice, but was pretty loud without all of the impediments.

if you want to spend a little more you can with a stromung axle back, bolts on directly on the mid pipe, great exhaust, but it is pricey

I'd keep the cats & change the piping from the last cat back to something wider. 2.25 to 2.5 inches is best. Also, remove the resonator for more of that deep growl. Changing the muffler out to one that's less restrictive will make your car louder.

Do you have EL or UEL headers? EL (or "equal-length") headers will sound more like a traditional 4 cylinder engine while UEL (or "unequal-length") headers will give that pulsating rumble we all know and love.
