Default San Diego to Seattle in an EJ207 GC8

I finally had the chance to purchase one of my dream cars and take a drive of a lifetime. Here is my old WRX that I lost to an unfortunate accident, which I learned greatly from. I am finally back in another Subaru and could not be happier.

I had been looking for the right car for a while and John2.5rs recently put his gorgeous car up for sale and I could not resist. I flew into San Diego last weekend and was met with great weather at the airport.

John picked me and my friend up in his 7 series (thanks again!) We spent a couple hours looking over the car and chatting before we signed over the title and I was on my way! John was a great guy, wish I could have spent more time in San Diego! I could not have asked for a better buying experience.

We took off North on my trek back to Washington. A friend recently moved to San Luis Obispo and we were able to stay the night at his place and take some pictures with his 6spd Tacoma and STi. I am not a big fan of stickers on cars so I removed most of them and cleaned the car a little bit before we left.

The next morning we took off to San Francisco and made a stop at FatLace (thanks for the stickers) and then the Golden Gate Bridge.

John had talked about really wanting to take the car on Highway 1 and it would almost be a crime to not since we had the time. I do not regret my decision at all even though it added quite a few hours to the drive. They were the best roads I have ever driven on in my life. Tops to John for setting up one hell of a car! It is very planted and rotates well under throttle through the canyon roads. Not much under steer at all and in general is a very predictable car. The next few shots are at random places along Highway 1. If any of you get a chance to make this drive I highly recommend it!

We took Highway 1 as far north as we could. Since we got a late start that morning we were racing against day light to make it to a reasonable place to spend the night. We left the coast of Highway 1 around midnight and were met with a windstorm on the backside of the road towards 101. On the first corner a deer was on the edge of the roadway, which set the tone for my driving style the rest of the way. Fallen branches and loose leaves/gravel were the conditions the rest of the way to 101. We ended up in Eureka, CA, at about 1:30am where we spent the night Sunday.

We woke up early at 7 am to get a jump on the day. The last shot is coming out of Eureka, CA on Monday morning at about 8am. We drove straight to Seattle from there making a quick pit-stop at the Redwood National Park. I wish I would have google’d the stop where you can drive through the redwood and got pictures.

I am thoroughly ecstatic and pleased with my purchase. It burned almost zero oil through the drive and got around 24 MPG overall. The twinscroll VF-37 screams and is a pleasure to take to 8k all day long .

Thanks again John for being a great seller and building a wonderful car which will be taken care of, I promise. I'll send out your radar detector on Monday!

Still trying to decide on what I'm going to do. I do plan on changing it a bit though. Those rear fenders look a bit small

Thanks, cell number is the same if you still have it. Do you still have your strobes?

Cool story, highway 1 is definitely awesome. The only thing about it is that going south from Eureka to San Fransisco took us 12 hours, whereas driving the 101 the way back only took 5 to cover the same distance. It was totally worth it though!

Thanks, It took us about 9 hours to get from San Francisco to Eureka. We did not have any traffic though. Surprising how much quicker the 101 is, but I would take the 1 again in a heartbeat!

He actually left the detector in the glove box and I did not notice until I got home . I wish I would have found it earlier!

You're right the car is perfect in a lot of ways. I'm having a hard time deciding on what to do to make it more of my "own". There are always extra suspension bits to purchase; subframe lock bolts, differential bushings, roll-center adjusters, random bushings, etc... I want to either make or have something made to separate the trunk from the cabin. It will be tricky because of the cage flowing into the trunk as it does. I have a shift extender similar to Latheworks being tapped at a machine shop right now that I'm stoked to see after we get it finished.

I eventually want to do something with the rear quarter panels, either 22b style or go with some sort of molded flares. Cutting up the quarter panel scares me! Painting the doors and trunk similar to an F40(I think it was the F40) where you can see the carbon through the paint would be cool, if I can ever find a painter competent enough. John was very picky on who painted the car and it really shows. It will be hard for me to find someone that will be able to match the caliber of paint it currently has.

Another set of wheels would be awesome for track days/when the rear quarters get widened. Also a set for winter/snow duty will be in the works too.

Full race also makes a pretty awesome dual EWG setup for the twinscroll . There are so many options that have been running through my head, but I'm just going to enjoy the hell out of it for awhile before I make any big changes!
