Default 2012+ Impreza Light Bar

Hey Everyone,
So the light bars for our cars are well non existent and I was not comfortable attaching one to my bumper as that seemed like a bad idea so I found a fabricator to make me a proper bolt on light bar. Posted below are preliminary pics. Trying to see if anyone has interest in the light bars to see if I could organize a group buy, he made 3 extra ones so far but can make more if people are interested. My cars were the test mule and they were built for the
hatchback so not certain if they will fit regular impreza but if anyone is in the albany area we could always do a test fit. He hasn't told me what pricing would be yet but since I already paid for R&D you guys get to get it for cheaper than I did . The pics are before powdercoat, at present I am waiting for them to get back and once they are powdercoated I will take some more pics then wire up the lights. The bar can support more than 2 lights easily just would have to let us know to add the extra brackets for even more lights. This bar was built using the KISS (keep it simple stupid) rule.

Would be interested depending on cost. There are none on the market besides the ridiculously overpriced rally innovations things. I've looked around on XV forums as well, and there seem to be a few even more expensive ones available in Australia, but honestly its a $20,000 car, why are you putting thousands more (aud) into it when you could have bought a WRX?

Anyway, would be interested if the price is reasonable for a piece of bent metal tube stock with some holes in it.

Also I've been trying for a while to find something that would fit behind the sports mesh grille. I have a set of Hella 500ff's, but they're too big to fit back there- which is what led me to wanting to get a light bar. I believe these 4" KC HiLites will fit http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008KX06RQ, but I have questions about the light output. There don't seem to be many reviews on this particular model, and if you ask the Electrical and Lighting forum, they tell you to go buy LEDs without giving any reasonable advice.

LED's are great for power draw, but at the price, I'd be better off saving it for a car with more than 148 hp.

What does light output have to do with HP?

I obviously cannot answer the light output question.

In regards to the bar I had them made for 2 reasons
1: because I always wanted to add a light bar to the car
2: because i wanted some additional lighting as the misses cannot see very well at night,
comes in handy on the back roads I often travel.

A full retrofit would have worked out to be more money than the cost of a light bar. If I did opt to buy a wrx/sti I would still be adding a light bar ditto for outback, forester etc.

I will post up the pricing as soon as I have the relevant info.

Thats your decision. If the man wants more light than HP so be it. I just didnt quite understand why you mentioned buying a WRX over investing lighting on the NA.

Sorry to take your thread off topic aeoporta, I will resign.

personally seems like overkill for a road vehicle. If you had an XV maybe that would be more believe-able. It tends to be more of an off road accessory then on the road accessory.

Lighting is not a bad idea. I am interested in lighting. The point I was trying to make is that the currently available lighting solutions are very expensive when compared to the cost of the car, to the point where for some people that money might be better spent on other aspects of a vehicle.

Which is why I am very interested pending cost.

Interested too, there are a few other mounts on here too, made from Home Depot and Lowes parts as well. Nothing beats a good set of fogs on back roads.

looking at prices:
Rally innovations 269.99 bolts into bumper so not sturdy and will cost you a bumper eventually.

Primitive racing 255 if you purchase their skid plate to bolt it to, skid plate is 199
Primitive racing bolt thru bar cost 355 requires 4 holes drilled

Gorilla bar 465

This bar is more like the primitive bolt thru and requires 2 holes drilled. Specifically, drop the plastic skid plate and drill 2 holes in the lower crossmember, the 2 top holes already exist to use as a guide.

He is requesting 250 and this will include the hardware to mount them. Bars have been powerdercoated black.
You would have to pay s/h
I would get you guys in contact with him and then you guys could work out the shipping details.

or Option 2
I could get the bars and ship them myself, but then I would have to mark them up since I would have to drive to get them so that would bump the price up by 10 per bar. So 260

For the local people you could just do a pickup, pickup location is in rensselaer ny.

Once we do the install on my vehicles I will put up a full write up with instructions and pics.

Thanks

The rally innovations bar bolts onto the car chassis. The two bolts by the bumper are more for making it look parallel to the bumper. The only down side with it is you have to cut away at a bit of the OEM factory skid plate. It's super sturdy. I can take some pics later to show you how it bolts on, it's actually two pieces.

I think the light bar looks great. I would purchase one for my '04 if it were available. Combine that with the skid plate = awesome.

I am gonna respectfully disagree on the rally innovations bar, there were a few members on here with previous gen impreza who had the rally bar start to damage their bumpers, my gripe with it is that it does not seem to hold up as well as the more expensive bars. Ultimately one must do whatever makes the most fiscal sense. Doing installs of bar today so will post more pics of that. For now this was what they looked like before powdercoating.

I agree as well. I just bought one for a '12 and the nylon screw brackets won't fit vertically once the screws are in... I had to turn them horizontally. I'm just waiting on the day I hit a well hidden pothole and pop a huge plastic crater in my bumper.

well guess I should update:

My buddy and I finished up 1 car, I have a few prelimniary pics and still have my car to do.
For one car we just wired up everything to run with oem fogs.

For my car we are gonna do an independent foglight setup then add an additional switch. I was trying to find a pigtail for the foglight switch but looks like we will just have to cut the redundant one and cap it. Then use that pigtail to run a separate setup for the auxiliary lights. subaru does not offer the pigtail as a part so junk yard was the only other option but couldn't find any at a reasonable distance.

Targeting doing the wiring up next week then will post all the pics sorry guys been swamped at work.

k so
my car, I have not completed the wiring well they are wired just haven't connected them since I want the nice oem look and wiring diagram did not match up to the one in the manual so still figuring that out. The bars were also built to shear off in the event of a crash so no damage is caused to the car. Anyone interested in these bars can just pm and and I will get them the info they need and do some leg work if they want me to price is still 250.
