Default HOW TO: Take apart dash/ center console

I wanted to run the cord for my Garmin behind the stereo for cleaner looks and less chance of snags. And I found this awesome how to vid.

Yeah, too bad our cheap ass cars still use thin metal wires for the HVAC controls (non Limited models). I almost broke one of mine trying to install my stereo, luckily I was saved by some epoxy

Man... first time with the HVAC wires... every time thereafter has been a cakewalk though!

That's a useful video if you're trying to replace the factory head unit with aftermarket.

But for your task of cleaning up the cable for your GPS, you don't need to tear the dash apart like that. Simply route the cable between your dashboard and windshield, all the way on the driver's side of the car and then down to the interior fuse box.

That's how I dressed the cables for both my GPS and radar detector.

Yeah, but I didn't want it hard wired. I wanted to use the cigarette lighter power supply. It looks quite clean now. Cigarette plug + about 2" of cord. Then disappears behind center stack, then about 2" sticking out at the top where my gps is mounted.

I'm going to have to take apart the dash this spring again, one of my RCA cables has been on the fritz ever since I installed my head unit.

I actually wired a cigarette lighter plug into where my interior fuse box is located, and then plugged my GPS cord into that. So I guess my GPS isn't hard wired, technically.

This approach leaves the cigarette lighter plug in the cubby area empty most of the time, and therefore available for other purposes. And it looks nice.

If you know how to remove the starlink head unit, please tell me. I'm trying to do a similar install of my wifes GPS

Thanks for posting this, I'm going to be removing my headunit to replace it and this video will help a lot.
