Default USDM 04 STi to JDM

I own an 04 STi and just recieved an assignment to Misawa Japan. I would like to take my car with me but I have no idea how much it might cost to make it legal there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All I know man, assuming your military like me. They either A. Won't let you take you car due to legal issues, or B. ship the car for you and you will pay an ass **** ton amount for paper work.

Why not just.....keep the STi state side and buy a toy out there? Probably cost you just as much.

I really am just trying to avoid keeping it in storage. I know it will be crap if it sits for 3 years. I know it might cost a bit but hell I already own it and might be able to do some sweet interior mods while I am there. Oh and I have my wifes brand new car to take care of too. Fun.
