Although I'm really surprised the Knicks didn't match it, they have a habit of grossly overpaying players (*cough Allen Houston *cough Marbury). Lin is worth about half that contract, if that. He played 25 games in one season. He isn't proven, has no left hand, and no defense.
I'm not surprised NY didn't match Houston's outrageous contract. The Knicks have nothing to fear by giving away Lin to Houston. The Rockets are not relevant and won't be for the foreseeable future, not to mention they're not even in the same division or conference. To overpay Lin to match the Rocket's offer would be financial suicide considering the players they have on their payroll.

Lin went for the big bucks, but I'm starting to think he let his ego get to his head. Sure, he got a huge contract and made a ton of guaranteed money. But, in New York he had the opportunity for something more. To play for a major city/franchise at Madison Square and alongside Melo, Amare, and Kidd. Kidd could've mentored Lin into an even more versatile PG, but we won't see that happen anymore. Now, he gets his wish to rot away in Houston on a mediocre lottery bound team.

I relate his situation similar to Ramon Sessions. He had the opportunity to play for the Lakers, albeit at a lower price, but have the chance at a championship and learn alongside one of the best PG's in the league in Nash. Instead, he decides to take the extra cash and play for one of the historically worst teams in NBA history the Bobcats. That doesn't add to your career resume. These guys aren't thinking about the long term implications of their greedy moves, but rather the immediate big bucks.

Lol at boasting how good/the potential of the Knicks. They're still maybe the fourth best team in the East. The "long term" implications of the Knicks involve trading Carmelo and continue being a mediocre, barely scratching into the playoffs team. I don't blame Lin at all for getting out of that place and taking money from a city that will a) love him and b) is in the process of rebuilding something.

You know, the contract really isn't that bad.

The first two years are at average NBA player salary (5mil/year) and year 3 is 14 mil. So, if Lin stinks, the Rockets are only out an average player's salary and if he's good, they're getting a good bargain even at the inflated rate in the 3rd year. Plus, if he does stink, expiring contracts are like trade gold in the NBA, so the Rockets could just move him if they really wanted to and get something back.

I can't say they're the best in the East. But, they've gotten much stronger with the acquisition of Kidd, Camby, and Felton. Houston, on the other hand, isn't even in the conversation for contending or making the playoffs. They were willing to basically become the Houston Magic just to get Dwight Howard and take on 4 terrible Orlando contracts.

Lin is an idiot. There is more money to be made in New York. (More non-basketball opprotunities, more exposure, more endorsements)

Lin in Houston will be sorta like a replacement for yao... although I think most casual fans won't care where Lin goes... he will get endorsements regardless and fans from China, Taiwan, and hk will buy it all up also if fan voting is true he might as well end yup being an all star too. atleast we won't be seeing any of the "yo" "yao" commercials

Rumor is that Phil Jackson is talking to Portland Trailblazers owner Paul Allen about becoming president of the Blazers organization

Yes, please!

For the Knicks it is, because it would include a giant luxury tax hit.

I don't know about that. He's basically guaranteed what, $30 mil over the next 3 years? If he took less and sucked in NY, he wouldn't make that. His 15 minutes of fame would be up.

Plus, the Knicks wouldn't match.

So....

The Knicks now have Camby again....and Kurt Thomas again. I think they're looking to sign John Starks and Charles Smith just to round it out. Hey, it worked in 1997!

I think it will be crazy for them to lose Lin, because the athleticism, and quickness of his game and the speed he gives there back court. It good they have Felton, and him and Kidd in the back court to control the ball is real good, but Kidd is old and they need that speed and athleticism in the back court to help them to compete in the east.

But on the other hand it will be dumb to give him all that money without seeing him play a full season, not just 35 games. But I think he is losing out on a chance to learn from one of the greats PG in the NBA.

I have to agree with you there about Lin learning from Kidd but with the money that Houston's throwing at him even though its really back loaded if he busts he still gets a nice nice sum of money. Hey atleast you guys aren't stuck paying Landry Fields $20M for 3 seasons...

So the Lakers are signing Antawn Jamerson and JO trying out for them... add in Nash... thats gonna be one old group!

On what planet does Lin have speed and athleticism? He has hustle, smarts, heart like John Starks, and a real understanding of the game. But I wouldn't really call him fast or above average in athleticism.

Mayo to Dallas. Grant Hill to Clippers. Chicago continues to be exit only.

I see US team struggled against Brazil. Down 10 at times but win by 11. Yeah, they aren't beating the Dream Team.

Grant Hill should have gone to the Knicks. They could be the first team to start 5 guys over 40 years old!

I think Collison will do just fine on his own. Personally, I'm happy he's out of the east.

You're probably right. Not adding another PG might also mean Collison and Beaubois get to fight over who starts and who plays more minutes
