As far as the ECU knows it is still a forester and the immobilizer system is still intact.

We are getting full AVCS advance (40 BTDC) using the JDM camgears with the 32bit ecu since the AVCS limit on USDM cars is a physical limit not an ECU limit.

Canbus started in 08 so this does cover the entire GDB series.
luke couldnt of said it better but you missed the biggest point.

BECASUSE RACE CAR!!!

and because there is still doubt

this is how it works

jdm engine being run by forester ecu - which is done using usdm sti cams and cam sensors ( machine work done to make sensors work) usdm sti intake harness, im currently running the usdm avcs solenoids at the moment going to put in the jdms and see if there is a difference between the 2. not expecting a lot from that swap though.

but other than those few parts of the usdm sti engine it is all jdm!

Nice job and sweet! I have been working on the same thing but I haven't gotten to the point of starting it yet. I've been working on the swap since dec 2011 but planning a wedding, working 50 hours, being married, and working on my masters has slowed me down incredibly.

I'm excited to see that I'm on the right path and that nothing else seems to need to be done.

BTW for you or anyone wondering what I'm doing, I'm running the Version 8 JDM EJ207 in my 2007 Sti which is 32 bit of course. I had the engine running before in my 2004 wrx but that wasn't a crazy achievement being 16 bit already. I loved how the response and everything that comes with having a 207 and I wanted to keep it.

you have to add a fake fitting for the evap system, and depending on location your lack TGVs may require a manifold swap.

Good luck man! I got lucky and all they checked for was cats! they never popped my hood at all. And now i can register my car as a flex fuel vehicle because the gas analyzer picked up that i was running on e85. So that means no more emissions for me .

And arco if you have or can get a hold of a factory sti intake setup do it they wont be able to tell its a 2.0.

Now its time to go back to cat less dp and get my power back!

And thanks guys for the comments this swap at this point has over 6000+ miles on it now as its my dd. Which consists of a 70 mile commute to work daily. I already have another swap in mind here. but not sure when it will go into action. I too am looking to get married soon

Awesome forester! I am trying to do the same swap on my 04 wrx with a jdm v9 sti motor but having an issue... I have installed the motor and used my throttle body ac power steering and coil packs from the wrx. I also installed the avcs wiring kit, and a version 8 ecu. When I fired her up she idles extremely hard and inconsistently and the check engine light flickers on and off constantly without stopping... Any idea what is causing this? Did I miss something?

^ What ECU are you running? That may be the issue. FYI You should open up your own thread or post in the EJ207 thread instead of here. You'll get more help that way

Dude that's sweet. Would the flex fuel vehicle designation work in other states as well? I want to try that to avoid smog in my car and my AE86

Nice car!

Does the jdm V9 motor not run the little mini idler pulley (the small one that sits just next to the tensioner?)

I'm on my 2nd V9, 100% it's not. The change over to the GRB body style in America and Japan was the start of the Dual AVCS.

How are things going on these swaps? How did cam sensor location need to be machined? Hole opened up? Mating surface machine down for a tighter clearance?

My swaps are all still on the roads. 3 of this swap done by myself and 4 lending a hand. Ranging from 5000-60000miles on the swaps. I sold my forester with this swap to a buddy. It out down 295whp and 342ft lbs on corn at 20psi. In Denver.

You have to open up the he in the drivers side and cut the sensor down on the passenger side. If you need more info pm me or kplutien.
