I'm thinking about upgrading to the 4/2 pots from the 06-07 wrx on my bugeye, but I already have upgraded to the H6 rotors in the rear, and new slotted rotors in the front.
I know I need the bracket from Kartboy for the rear, but will those 4/2 pots fit on my rear H6 sized rotor? As far as I've seen, no issues for the front rotor or bracket correct? Anything else I'd need? Thanks

Nope. The H6 rotor is solid and 10mm thick, the 2-pot rotor is vented and 18mm thick.
The 4-pots only on the front would still be a good upgrade though and you keep your existing rotors. Also the stock don't clear them. |

there really is no advantage to going to the 2 pot rears....it wont improve your braking and will just cost you $$$

but..... but.... it would 'look' like I stop faster!
![]() So is the 2 pot rotor the same size, just thicker, or is it actually larger too? I know the stock 16's won't fit, not a problem though I have P7's How is the overall balance with the 4 pot front and H6 rears? I know on the stock calipers, the H6 bring the balance a touch to the rear brakes. |

the balance will be the same as teh diameter is the same
the 2 pot rears are heavier |

How about the LGT upgrade? Is that a better option?
Does the LGT front upgrade require a new rotor, or does it use the same as the WRX? Between the LGT fronts or the 4 pot fronts with H6 rears, which is a better option? Thanks! |

You are asking questions that are answered in a post I spent a lot of time on. It can be found in the brake sticky.

Thanks Uncle Scotty - I've got those already. Just looking to improve, sounds like it isn't worth it.
I agree, the stoptech streets are the best pad I've tried. A bit dusty, but well worth it. |

Jamal - can you point me to the post? I've looked through the stickies. Perhaps I just missed it.
Looks like the 4/2's aren't as good as my 03 stockers? That I would not have guessed. Why is that? The main question I didn't see was the LGT vs my 03 fronts vs the 4 pots? How would your order the performance of those front brakes from best to worst? |

Braking power? LGT>03>4-pots Heat capacity LGT>>03>4-pots (just really a tie with the last two) Pedal feel (BIG for the street) 4-pots>03/LGT Ease of pad changes? 4-pots>03/LGT Again, it all depends what you're looking for. |

I've never tracked the car. I don't see myself doing it often, but at some point I'd love to try it out.

^ I wouldn't worry about heat capacity, or ease of changing pads then.

Cool - so the only reason to upgrade to 4 pots is feel for the most part.
And the H6 in the rear is basically the same as the 2 pots already. If I decided to upgrade the 4 pots, has anyone just used the remanufactured 06 calipers from Autozone? Seems fairly reasonable for the price vs what I see on the boards for a rebuilt set. Throw on some G2 paint and stickers and it would be like new! |

Actually, the 2 pot rears use a bigger rotor, the same as the 05-09 LGT.

Diameter is the same, brake torque is the same. Only difference is the venting, and heat capacity isn't really a concern here.

I'm reviving this 6-month old thread because I am struggling with the discussion I read here. Every answer given by Scotty and the others points to the idea that the stock 03 calipers + H6 upgrade + quality rotors + SS lines + mc brace + good pads + good fluid = optimal braking performance for the bugeye, and that swapping in 4/2 pots is a waste of time and $.
But I have ALL of those upgrades and the braking performance of my 03 SUCKS!! I can't even lock up the brakes when I take the car to a safe place and test the limits! I will admit that I have found that my Hawk HPS pads will grab a little better after I get a some heat in them... but as the weather gets colder here in SLC I don't tend to get the brakes very hot during normal street driving. I have no confidence that if I got caught in a surprise emergency braking situation that my current set up would stop me as quickly as one should expect from a well-balanced performance vehicle. It's my #1 gripe with this car that I otherwise completely love to drive. So I am reopening the question: Is it really not worth the $$ to upgrade 4/2 pot calipers, and/or mc? How can it make sense that I wouldn't get more squeezing power from 2x the pistons? Last edited by NordiX; 12-03-2012 at 01:43 PM. Reason: typo |

If you're a disciple of "Uncle Scotty" then I'm surprised you've missed his frequent rants about how crappy the HPS pads are. The subject comes up almost as frequently as his rants about the Hankook V12 not being a max performance tire. Try some better pads.

But whenever I've searched around for technical advice Scotty does seem to be one of the forum gurus that tends to have solid knowledge of all things Suby... and I did notice Scotty's reference to the StopTech pads above. So I will take that into account that perhaps my current pads are not doing me any favors. But I have a hard time believing that all I need to do is swap to StopTechs and my 2/1 pots are going to suddenly become amazing... so I feel that the 4/2 pot question is still open for more discussion. Funny that you brought this thread back up I was just thinking about replacing my front brakes with the 4 pots
does anyone know if the remanufactured calipers from autozone for the 06 WRX are any good? there seems to be 2 different kinds anybody try this approach? |
