Hey guys I need pics of a late EJ20G throttle body. The motor I just bought has an EJ20G engine code on the timing cover, but doesn't look like it. I need to know how to wire this thing for my swap, and the throttle body looks like a K to me. Help?

"Late" EG20Gs are wired like Ks.
The coil on the manifold marks yours as a "Late" (3-plug ECU). Early ones had the COPs. If you need the early throttlebody (4 plug ECU) then there have been a few folks to flip an early TB and add a small spacer to mount it on the late (K-style) intake manifold. |

I got this from Tiger JDM with an Z5 ecu, which is a 4 pin G ecu. I should get them to ship me a different ecu then?

I'd rather have the 280 HP EJ20k ecu (the 6S I think?) if I can.

I, personally, like the early stuff because Rob has an off the shelf, tested, and trusted tune for them.
IIRC, the 280HP ECUs have a hard time with our gas. Do you have a harness also? If so, is it for a 3 or 4 plug ECU? You might need a 4 plug/COP motor instead? |

I have a Z5 ECU but I'm gonna get them to send me a 6S or 75 cause the k wiring can't run off of a Z5, correct?
Also, I have access to 93 octane all over, not sure if that makes a diference. |

You need a 3-plug ECU to run that engine. If it has a TD04 turbo, grey top injectors and a purple label MAF you need either a 2S (WRX Wagon M/T) or 4W (Forester Turbo M/T). If it has a VF-series turbo, yellow top injectors and an orange label MAF you need either a 1S (WRX) or 6S (WRX STI) ECU. The STI ECU runs a bit more midrange boost but power levels are the same (280 PS @ 6500 rpm).

I now see the engine has a flex plate so it's definately got a TD04 and grey top injectors (at least that is how it left the factory).

No, the EJ20K ECUs run bigger injectors and a bigger MAF. When mixing these up driveabilty will be quite poor indeed.

I can find these injectors a lot of places, but where would I find this MAF?
I'm sure the 6S is a more aggressive tune, can I plug it up just so I can drive the car, and pick up the injectors and MAF in the meantime? |

In general you need to match the ECU to the injector size and MAF version it expects. Otherwise you are asking for trouble.
Besides that, your motor has a CR of 9:1. If you try to run an ECU meant for high octane AND 8:1 engine, it certainly will not last long. -Rob |

Thanks Rob, I'm getting a 2S for it. Problem solved!

Late EJ20G in Forester and Impreza WRX Wagon made 250 PS. Both are high compression engines (9.0:1).
I have a 4W ECU available should you be interested. |
