Default JDM V9 Swap into 02 WRX!!! HELP!!

okay guys, so i have read many threads on "similar" issues to what i am having, but nothing has really helped, plus lots of these that i have read are from years back and i figured there may be easier ways to fix this issue by now.

SO i have a 2002 WRX and i recently dropped in a 2005 JDM STi v9 swap into it i did purchase the AVCS kit from IA Performance and followed the instructions for installation. the swap came with the engine harness, downpipe and ecu marked "22611AL300", now i have checked several times to make sure i pinned the AVCS harness properly, which i did with the exact instructions. MY ISSUE IS THAT MY CAR WILL NOT START WITH THE JDM STi ECU! Now it will start with my original WRX ecu but of course it sucks and sounds like crap. now i have read a few threads stating about an "immobilizer", but a few shops said i can disable that with my Open Source software. Unfortunately Stephen at IA Performance is out for a bit and he happens to be the only shop that has been helping me and providing info to help me out with this. i don't know where to turn anymore...

Can anyone here please help me out, i have been stumped for that past few days! my car is done no leaks anywhere and ready to be driven, i miss my nice late night drives with her lol HELP!!!!!

It's interesting it starts with the USDM ECU and not the JDM one. Do you have a picture of the ECU? Does the fuel pump cycle when you turn the ignition into the on position? What happens when you try to start it?

It may be easier to just get a v7/v8 ECU without the immobilizer.

no the fuel pump will not prime when on the on position.. i was thinkin the same about using the v8 ecu but i'm low on funds i may see if the person who sold me the engine may want to swap it out

so you have never heard of the immobilizer being disarmed using OP/RomRaider??

THe L300 series of ECUs are all immobilized from what I have heard, you should look for an ecu ending in 581, that is the V8 and it will run you just fine and they are 100% not immobilized.

The stock 02 ECU will run the JDM motor just fine as long as its tuned for it you will just not have avcs. I ran a local v9 on the wrx ecu for a few weeks when my buddy got an immobilized ecu on his swap. You cannot disable the immobilizer through rom raider as of yet, the ECU is looking for a matching code from the immobilizer unit, key and ignition and you cant flash the immobile ECU.

You are correct, what transmission do you have? you might have to swap out the neutral position switch, about 50$ at the dealer.

Yeah the neutral position switch isn't hard to get or expensive. I just sold an AH581 ECU not too long ago but they are not terribly difficult to get ahold of if you post something in the wanted classifieds.

Like lukeskywrx said, you can copy most of the tables from the V9 ECU to the WRX ECU and the car will at least run okay, even if the AVCS is disabled. Someone has probably already done this. I ran a EJ257/V8 swap off a WRX ECU which was only tuned for the STi pink injectors and it ran okay until I could get the V8 ECU I had tuned.

the v8 ECU will just drop in, they motors are basically identical so you dont have to copy tables since most are the same anyway.

also for anyone who ends up with this problem and comes into this thread. i was the guy who had the other immobilized ecu from my v9 as well. mine ended in a 810 and was immobilized so not all 810s arent though.

stephen wont be back till the 5th is what he told me yesterday. he might have an ecu hanging around though. he got me a 581 ecu when i was S.O.L as he is local to me a become a good friend.

good luck and hopefully you can get that beast running soon because i love mine!

I meant the WRX ECU. I know between the V7/V8/V9 JDM motors you can use any ECU on them. I just looked back at some old threads on my swap, I did it in 2003, damn that makes me feel old.

thanks for the heads up guys, seems like that is the only route i can take is using the version 8 ecu,

so i did flash the stock ecu map on to my wrx ecu, will i be ok with that for just regular driving and staying away from boost?

Exclamation Spec C RA-R swap in 2002 WRX ECU Immobilizer

Hi Guys,
I'm replying to this thread because I have a similar situation and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a 2002 WRX that I recently put in a Spec C RA-R engine in. I cannot start the motor with the original RA-R ECU. It will start with the WRX ECU like mentioned in the thread but does not work well at all. I was hoping that I could use the original RA-R ECU and reading this thread there is mention of an immobilizer that is on V9 ECUs. I believe that the immobilizer is my problem. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue?

Thanks,
AcadienWRX

The ecu IS the problem. It IS immobilized. I almost bought 2 Ra-R engines in the past year and researched and know this for a fact.

You need to find a v7 or v8 ecu to run it. You can use your usdm ecu but need a serious tune. Though you will need a tune on any ecu you use.
