Default 6 speed Transmission in a 93 Legacy GT?

So I am wondering if it is at all possible to put a 6 speed into a 1993 Legacy GT? Its AWD that currently has TY752 transmission. My wife and I just bought a new house and its gonna be about 160 kms round trip from work. It will be mostly highway driving, so a 6 speed would be nice. Is this possible?

We didn't have a Legacy GT here in the States in '93 - is that the turbo model?

I don't know what a TY572 transmission is, and Google doesn't either, but the answer is YES, you can put a 6MT into just about any Subaru from '90 on. It's certainly not going to be cheap, and I doubt you'd see much (if any) improvement in mileage. The STI 6MT has a 0.756 6th gear, compared to (probably) 0.780 5th in your 5MT. And you probably have the same 3.90 axle ratio already, so there's nothing to be gained there, either. So, only a marginal change in the final drive ratio, and you're toting around 100lbs (45kg) or more of extra weight, which doesn't equate to better gas mileage. I've had a 6MT in my '97 for a few years now and my highway mileage is basically the same it's always been.

Sorry the transmission model # was supposed to be TY752. I miss typed it. The car is a turbo model. It is a JDM. Thanks for all the info. You are right, for the extra weight the gain isn't high enough to bother. It was an idea that popped into my head and I thought I would explore it.
