This guy just scammed me! He sold me a married ap a couple of days ago and sold it to me claiming that it was an unmarried one. Obviously it was married to another car, and he couldn't use it on his car and that's why he sold it to me and is now looking for a unmarried one.

Thought there was something not quite right with this guy. First he lowballs me on a brand new AP which I nicely decline. Then he gets real adamant about proving its unmarried AND wants to know why mine doesn't have the "red adapter" when he's never seen it!

Sorry for your loss. Probably married to his car and he was too stupid to know it! If you used PayPal or paid credit dispute the charges if you can.

Got screwed by some guy on e-bay for a GC, however we had his telephone number and address. Needless to say he gets calls all the time at all hours of the morning. Wish I could figure out how to get google phone to just redial nonstop.

OP,

sorry for your loss man.

Thought it was suspicious that he was selling one at the same time he was trying to buy the same thing. Good luck getting your money back.

Yeah I just hope PayPal thoroughly investigates it. Still hoping they will get my payment since this scumbag doesn't look like he is. He's really stupid though, he's saying it was unmarried, but within the AP manager, you can see the date for when it was married, and it was definitely not while I had it. It also has a name on the maps and that name is not his. So I still think he either stole it from someone and couldn't use it, or bought it married and needed to pass it on to someone.

Has anyone had PayPal cover losses of this size?

Did you pay using a credit card? If so you may have better luck with them than Paypal.

Yes. It's a very lengthy process because you have to work with the seller and it takes weeks to allow him to respond. If the matter is not resolved with the seller at the end of the dispute time then you request PayPal to intervene at which time you'll need to present all the proof. Then wait again for the sellers response. You will probably be required to return the item at your expense. Then be issued the refund. It takes about a month.

Ha, I like that idea, but I can't stoop to that scummy level.

On top of that, just spoke with PayPal and they apparently found the same evidence that I found and found him to be scandalous enough to give me a refund I just have to send the AP back to him.
