Default up pipe

i read on dirtyimpreza .com chat box, that if you tune your car, and dont remove the stock up pipe with the cats on it. you can destroy the pre convertor cat and blow your turbo. how real is this.

tune or car or not, having a pre-turbo cat is retarded... there's a reason subaru no longer does it. Pieces break off and fly into the turbo. Plus it hurts spool.

I have a stock catless uppipe I can sell you if interested. I cant remember if the 04/05 wrx has a cat though...

there is truth. i have seen at least 4 cars in several years that have had pre-cats fail and damage/destroy turbos. i have also seen well aged bugeyes/lgts/fxts with clogging issues.
