Default BBS fitment?

Any thoughts from the peanut gallery on whether this wheel and tire combo would work?

- BBS RG-R wheels, 18 x 8.5", 5 x 100 mm, +35 offset as that's all they offer (RG 736H from the BBS catalog)
- 245/40/18 or 255/35/18 Star Specs

As supporting evidence I cite a thread from this very forum, of Freed's FR-S: It's on stock suspension with no camber, has 18 x 9" +38 wheels with 255/35/18s, and the tires don't quite clear the fenders judging from the photos.

This would be for a hypothetical STX + street use setup, so there would be coilovers and camber plates with around -2 degrees all around. Take away half an inch of wheel width minus 3 mm less offset as compared to Freed's setup, add some negative camber both for handling and clearance, and then it should work…... maybe?

Here's a quick 'n dirty Photoshop Gimp-shop to see how the RG would look on a BRZ:

See post #19 for more 'shops.

I hope it works. It would look great.

That said, I was pretty certain that the stock wheels would have to go on the FR-S/BRZ when I manage to get one. After seeing it in person, I'm not so sure.

There were way too many machined-lip wheels at the NY Auto Show. It's like some factory in China came out with a new gizmo that can crank out that painted/machined finish and everyone adopted it overnight.

My GTI had the painted wheel w/ machined face. It just meant that there was absolutely no way to repair the wheel that fell on its face when I was rotating one day.

I saw where someone painted the stockers all black and it looked pretty sharp.

I actually like the look of the round-spokes-to-the-rim 18"s on the GTI, even with the black paint. Bauhaus, almost. BRZ/FR-S wheels are just wrong, though.

Potential workaround for street use:

GReddy conversion to 5 x 114.3 mm hubs, which would then allow for the RG 704H BBS RG, which would slot in perfectly at 18 x 9", 5 x 114.3, +42 offset.

The only problem is that this would totally ruin SCCA eligibility. Swapping hubs kicks one right up to the Prepared Class. Realistically this would probably fly under the radar at local events, especially since it wouldn't confer a performance advantage, but would definitely be a no-go at regionals and up.

Sticking with the original size in the OP and hoping it fits, or just picking a different damn wheel would be a better idea.

Super expensive somewhat-similar-looking forged wheel option: HRE. Their P40SC is definitely in the same vein as the RG-R, is made in the US, and can be ordered with any offset and bolt circle diameter that one may want. Did I mention it's expensive, though?

$1530 per wheel from one vendor. That price makes, say, Forgeline GA1Rs seem positively cheap at $1150 per corner (18 x 9", 5 x 100 mm, custom offset so could definitely get +42).

I'm not in tune with all the auto-x stuff, but you know the fenders are rolled from the factory right?

RG-R, 18 x 8.5" +35 (as in my OP, just different color):

CH-R, 18 x 8.0" +38 (as on the RaceComp car, only in black):

TRD and Gazoo Racing have the same, good idea:

http://blog.caranddriver.com/toyota-...-for-goodwood/

If my eyes do not deceive, those are BBS CK wheels.

http://bbs-usa.com/road-wheels-overview.cfm
http://bbs-usa.com/road-wheels-detail.cfm?CLID=27&WF=4

18 x 8", 5 x 100 mm, +35 mm offset all look good... but 23.5 lbs and cast construction are a peculiar choice for a purported race car (they ran it at the Goodwood hillclimb).

Indeed. For BBS money, they damn well better be forged from the molten lava of Mount Doom. They do look damn fine on the RCE BRZ, though.

<-- still rocking stock forged Evo MR BBS's

I just realized there is another BBS RG fitment option:

18 x 7.5", 5 x 100 mm, +49 mm offset (perfect! could even use a spacer if necessary), 17.9 lbs, and forged, of course.

The catches are that 7.5" rim width would eliminate any tires wider than 245s (225/40/18 the wisest choice, actually), and, uh, this size only comes in gold. Gold would require some rethinking of color choices and whatnot, but it could work. Here's a white BRZ with gold wheels, for example, where the wheels aren't even nearly the most offensive bit : http://brzpost.com/threads/white-sub...baru-look.138/

A few quick 'n dirty Photoshops Gimp-shops:

That'd be the RG-R in silver and gold +/- fancy BBS names for the same.

Out of curiosity; Are there any fender roll needs with rims that start getting wider than 8 or is their camber action that can something wider?

The

fender

lip

is

already

rolled.

Other than that, you have to start pushing out on the actual fender itself, and that's stretching the body work around the fender.

Bingo, and implied is that fender flaring (ie, outside contour changed) isn't ST* legal.
