Thanks for the heads up. I edited the OP to reflect the date change.

I'm in for the NER SCCA "Scroched orange" (08/18) event at Devens.

SCCA NER Point's event #8 "Scorched Orange" August 18th

Man I love this stuff! A bit cold and rainy on the way in, durring set up and tech but quickly the sun broke out and dried the tarmac for a fun day of Auto X. A total of 116 Cars showed up to run. Anything from Kid carts to National Champ carts to my G Stock RS to a Super Street Prepared Nissan GTR.

I guess miata's get hungry too after a long day at the track. Nom nom nom...

Saw a few faces I recognized and met alot of new ones aswell, they even let me borrow their compressor (thanks again guys!). Every one was very respectfull, cool and seemed to be having a good time, I know I was!

At the end of the day it's all about fun and beating the **** out of your car, which most of us clearly acheived, but I'm sad that i won't be able to run with the guys from Novice any more Hopefully see you guys in RTA or GS soon!

Time's http://www.ner.org/sites/ner.org/fil...%20Results.pdf

Also if you did go or are planning to go to future events, Speak up!

I'm planning on running at the NE SVT event on September 9th as well as the SCCA NER event on September 23rd.

Hope see you there!

You got booted out of novice? I guess you won class by a pretty big margin then? Are you going GS or RTA? I haven't seen the times yet.

Yeah Still waiting for those times so who knows what the margin was but it looks like I'll be running AGS, seems like the most wallet / daily driver friendly option. From what I understand it's basically G Stock that doesnt allow hoosiers or race tires. There were no RTA cars at the last event, there's some from event 6 but it was a small field. Looks like I get to run with the Evo's and Sti's

I knew we shoulda got your car inspected!!

If there is no RTA running they would probably just bump you to GS anyway.

Results are in http://www.ner.org/sites/ner.org/files/Scorched Orange - Class Results.pdf

Not only did you win PAX you only lost RAW to to the GTR and that was less than one second.

Congrats!

^ Link not working. Try this: RESULTS

RAW/PAXTime. NOVICE (Top 4 out of 23)

Warren (Ibrake4scoobs) 56.6 / 46.10
08 GTI (Some guy) 58.9 / 48.10
09 GTR (Another guy) 55.6 / 48.16
Alex (Abgrooms) 57.5 / 48.36

At the end of the day they announced I took 3rd (PAX), and GTR 2nd, but looks like I actually took 4th place (PAX) offically.

Seems they revised the PAX for the GTI after the event, the GTR and my STI got bumped to 3rd and 4th...Oh well!

One thing to take note of is I only hit one cone the whole day! (Which made no difference because I eventually went of course for a DNF)

Great day overall. I was nice to spend some time chatting with other NESIC members. Looking forward to September!

I have no shame. If you don't get any others in RTA I will change class and get my butt handed to me. WTF why not

I think the majority of the guys comming up from novice and the guys who don't run slicks in G-stock would jump into RTA, so if the class sticks around for a while I wouldn't be suprised if it becomes very popular.

The RTA class is what really got me interested. The thing is that a lot of novice that maybe RTA next year are currently in N class. So if this year doesn't show a good RT class then who knows what they will do with it.

Maybe I should jump to RTA anyway. Maybe we can get Justin to jump as well.

True, would hate to see it go away and have to run G-Stock on street tires just because of bad timming, but I would stay in novice as long as you feel you need to. No sense in passing up all the advantages and knowledge you get from novice.

I'm the only one registered in RTA for the 23rd but theres plenty of time left so who knows how it will turn out.

I'd love to make it to either the 16th or the 23rd.

Never autocrossed before, but I'm dying to get into it. Thing is, I'm not planning on driving my Subaru.

I have an 87 Chevy Monte Carlo SS that I want to put through its paces, but I'm not sure what class it would fall under as it has an engine swap, tubular control arms, updated springs, shocks, tires, wheels, etc.

Nothing crazy, but it's a bit of a Frankenstein's Monster at this point in terms of modifications.

Does that not matter at this point really as I'm a novice?

It matters in the fact that it will put you in a different handicap index if you have a highly modded car, but you will still be running against all the guys in the novice class regaurdless of vehicle. Take a look at this link and go through your mods and see where you fall.

Ibrake4scoobs has some good information. Here is another link to a nice cheat sheet to look at http://www.sff.net/people/dburkhead/prepcompare.htm. But you will need to read the complete rule book to be sure. Looks like the control arms put you in "prepared". Once you get a rough idea you could always ask on the NER solo boards what they think. Sometimes it is something very small that will put you in a harder class.

Looks like I'm stuck somewhere between Street Modified and Prepared, leaning heavily towards Prepared.

The things I'm unsure about are the brakes (Swapping from a single piston caliper to a modern 2-piston caliper with a 1.75" larger rotor) and the engine (Went from a carb'd 5.0 to a fuel injected 5.7). Neither of those are explicitly listed as far as I can tell.

I would bet against SP and say at least P but I don't know about your engine swap. Since you have such a Franken Car it's gonna make it a bit harder to class. I don't know how the BSCC classes but if you are going to try for the 23rd with NER then I would make a list of your mods and ask the question here http://www.ner.org/forums/index.php/board,5.0.html.

With SCCA classes it is all about what did you change not what can you change. I think the control arms will put you in Prepared as it doesn't look like it is allowed in SP. Even though this may be your ONLY prepared mod it is enough to put you in a class you may not want to be in. Of course if your coming out to have fun like the rest of us then who cares where you place in the grand scheme of things? Just class right and go for it!!
