Default Your input on Muteki lug nuts please!

Hey guys,

Ive been looking to get some neo chrome Muteki lug nuts. I was wanting to get some people opinion on the neo chrome lug nuts. Are they decent quality? Ive read a few threads and they said they were half decent. But the ones I read about were the muteki lug nuts that were in the $30-$45 price range. These came in either red, blue, black. They said they took their wheel off about 5-6 times before it started chipping. The Muteki ones i found on ebay that were neo chrome were $90-$120. Ex: SR35, SR48 lug nuts. For the price of that Im not too sure if its worth it. When I can honostly buy ray's lug nuts for about an extra $50-$80 dollars. Does anyone have any input on neo chrome muteki lug nuts?

rays are junk aluminum lugs.

any coated lug will start chipping. its only a matter of time. Unless its anodized, you can't really do anything to prevent it.

My brother has a set of the neo-chrome Mutekis that I bought and then ended up not using. They've only been on his car a year or less, but the finish is holding up well so far. In comparison, the cheaper red Mutekis I use with my track wheels on my CTS-V were already chipping when they came out of the package.

You must have experience with fake ones. My RAYS lug nuts aren't aluminum, they're duralumin. And they're just fine after 8 years of daily, auto-x and open track use, with Lord knows how many wheel removals/installations for winter wheels, auto-x/track events, brake jobs, suspension swaps, etc etc.

Ill be ordering muteki neo chrome sr35. If rays made neo chrome i might have considered them. But if rays made neo chrome, imo it'd be like $300+. Anything lug nut neo chrome aint cheap from what ive seen so far.

I've had decent luck with the Muteki ones. Just stay away from the crappy Ebay aluminum ones which will strip out after a few wheel changes.

ALL colored lugs will do this unless anodized!

Mine are still just as purple as when I bought them, granted they have zebra stripes now lol.

Ah I've only used the black ones, maybe the other colors don't hold up as well...

1. When people talk 'Aluminum' materials in the automobile industry, they actually mean an aluminum alloy.
2. Duralumin is the trademark name of a type of aluminum alloy.
3. If any product was made from 'Aluminum' (not an alloy) it would be too soft, and useless for any automobile application.

By reading 1, and 2, we can see that you are saying your lugs nuts ARE aluminum (alloy).

1. I didn't realize scooby4life was in the automotive industry.
2. Yes, it is. Which means it is not the cheap, unidentifiable aluminum alloy that the generic Ebay aluminum lug nuts are. There is a difference, and the RAYS lug nuts are duralumin, not cheap aluminum junk.

I'd definitely buy a set of them if only anodized red didn't look pink

I've had the SR35s in Neo Chrome for 3 summers now with no chipping or corrosion problems whatsoever. Just don't toss them around when changing wheels and they'll be fine. I also always use the black adapter socket, even though a standard socket may fit. I have heard people complain of corrosion problems with them, but I suspect that those people are using the open ended SR48 where moisture can intrude on the threads more easily.

The Project Kics hold up the best to abuse of taking wheels on and off. The Muteki are pretty good as well but eventually start to show signs of abuse.

I have a set of sr48 open ended in burning blue neon. I always use the provided socket and take care not to bang them around when I remove them. No chipping, no corrosion, no fading.
