I answered this elsewhere, but that was a highway thing only. Well maybe not, i don't ever get a chance in town, i don't live in a large area that has many roads with speed limits in town higher than 40, and it seems there are enough lights that by the time i get to 4th it is time to slow.

My last fill was 31.0 mpg

I shift into 5th if I'm cruising at a steady speed on flat terrain at 55 mph. If I'm trying to accelerate at all briskly, then that requires a downshift to 4th.

update on this situation..

it seems that I was shifting too slow for 5th gear. if i shift quickly I have no issues at all getting in 5th gear. if i am lazy with that shift it is a real bear to get into 5th gear.
i have a COBB short shifter now so i can shift much quicker and that has definitely helped and helped me to realize what the problem was

I found the shifter on my 13 Impreza to feel quite tight when I first got the car, especially shifting to 5th. I only have 700 miles on the car and it is already breaking in very nicely.

After nearly 13000 miles 5th is still very tight

My 2012 WRX has 7K on it...while driving on highway around 80mph, i put it in neutral because i heard a rattle. After about 5 seconds I went back to 5th gear only to get a nasty grind!!! I had to drop to 4th just to get it back to 5th. It's already had a entire clutch kit replace and now I'm having more problems when boosting. It's driving me insane.

I hope you rev matched before you tried to move from neutral into 5th at 80mph...

Why would you do that. Couldn't you just press in the clutch with out shifting and get the same result as opposed to wearing out your synchro.

So is everyone generally pleased with their MTs?

I test drove one yesterday after test driving a CVT last weekend. I actually wasn't that impressed with it, but I don't know if I really wouldn't like it or if it was just because I'm not used to it. Generally I think it takes more than a ten minute drive to get used to a manual transmission and clutch. Right now I drive a Tacoma with a 6spd. It's kind of an odd feeling setup; could just be that I'm too used to it now.

I just got the car last week 2013 Sport premium

I don't like clutch. It's like a push button. the point is too high.

I used to drive 04 Corolla.

I agree that the high catch point of the clutch takes getting used to. Once you're used to it, it's fine. I like the feel of the stick just fine. I'd take the 5MT over the CVT any day.

even better with Kartboy bushings and a short shifter
