Default Quick question

Found out my car was previously tuned at turbotek tuning by Ray but I bought a Cobb ap before I received this information. Can I still use the AP for data logging and the other things it provides without using a Cobb map and leaving the turbotek tune? Kinda hoping I didn't waste 600 bucks when I didnt really need too.

Nope. Can't use it until it is installed, which removes the old tune.

Eehh I was afraid of that, I feel like the Cobb stage 2 map won't be as good as a custom one from a shop. This kinda blows.

Hi there. If the current tune is not a Cobb or Ecutek map (i.e. open source), the AccessPORT version 2 (i.e. current version) will back-up the tuned map when you install it and it will install its own custom map which is necessary so that it can recognize that it is installed as well as allow for AccessPORT specific features like real-time flashing/tuning. When you uninstall the AccessPORT in this scenario, the original tuned map will be restored, however you cannot use that map with the AccessPORT and you will not be able to data log unless the AccessPORT is installed.

If it is a Cobb or recognized Ecutek tune (assuming it is an Ecutek tune that the AccessPORT can overwrite), then the AccessPORT will instead put a stock map back on when you uninstall. This is for scenarios where your AccessPORT, for example, gets stolen/lost and you wish to just return the ECU back to stock (you can simply borrow an uninstalled AccessPORT, install it and then uninstall it to return to stock) or you wish to use the new AccessPORT with the car. Or for cases where you want to overwrite the Ecutek tune (the AccessPORT cannot overwrite every Ecutek tune, however).

Even if the tuner who tuned the original map has a good reputation, I would still get some data logs of the tune. You can do that using an open source logger such as RomRaider (and an appropriate cable). Unless you have a detailed and reliable history of the car, anything could have happened between the tune and when you bought the car. The tune might not have been finished because the car had mechanical issues. The previous owner may have added mods after the tune that would require a re-tune. The car may have mechanical issues that surfaced after the tune, etc.

Thanks for the details, I actually do have an accurate description of the cars history. I have a contact between me and the previous owner who knows the car well and when things were done to it. According to them it was only stock for 50 miles or so and then an Invidia catless downpipe was installed and a custom 3 inch exhaust and it was tuned right after. I've also just established contact with the tuner so maybe with some information about the car and the previous owner they can fill me in on some details.
