Default Delta 1500 cams

Anyone here running the delta 1500 cams in their car? Do you like them? What don't you like? Were they hard to install/adjust? I'm considering running them in my 05 RS.

I run TWE stage 2.5 cams, not sure if thats close to a delta 1500 but i run on stock tune right now, no problems and she hits the redline and still has power to spare, im saving up for a tune and a redline increase as well. I was told an extra 500 rpm is ok on the 05's.

Im looking at doing super tech springs as well. Redline increase to 6800 rpm. So ur car runs fine with no tune?

Car runs fine with no tune, upgraded springs and retainers as well. A tune will definately help it out though. Needs a smoother power band and i guarantee a tune will do that for me. I wanna jump redline and also get a few codes deleted like p0420 and p2096. I have no cat so i get these codes at least once every couple weeks.

Don't delete p2096. Deleting the 420 code and a tune and it will go away. Bad things can happen if ur car decides to run lean for some reason and your CEL doesn't turn on. I am catless and I deleted the p0420 code and haven't had a 2096 code since then. What do u mean by smoother powerband? Is it like vtec or something? Just curious. The cams I'm looking at make power from 2k rpm to 6800 rpm

Sounds good on the p2096 code, im jus hoping a tune will make better power from start to finish, the cams seem to only make good solid power from 3k on. Low end seems ok but i think it could be better, hoping a tune will get me what im looking for. My car makes the best power at 6200 rpm and of course, you guessed it. Im redlined. Playing with the mechanical side is one thing im good at. The technological side im not. Just waiting for a time when i can make the trip to a tuner and get it all fixed up and finally be happy with the end result.

ive got 1500s and im tuned by phatbotti...

i love the power the cams make... but BEWARE, they are noisy as ****. it literally sounds like you have an exhaust leak when mashing the throttle.

honestly, im over the noise now... but it took 8 months of annoyance and constantly checking my exhaust to get to being ok with it.

ohh and if you have borlas... the sound gets multiplied through them.

^^^^^ AGREED!! The ticking is alot nosier because of the cams and headers. Wrapping the headers helped alot!

Cams without a tune can be risky. The timing advance is already aggressive on the 05+ n/a and cams will typically make the problem worse as far as knock goes. I would bet the advance multiplier is far from being fully used and that means the ecu is constantly trying to advance timing, it sees knock and retards it. Wash, repeat.

The power surge at 3k could be your CL/OL delay transition, timing related or just the way the cams affect the tq curve. Or a combination.

Well, i have heard the cams are noisy.... Has anyone had problems with the knock sensor throwing codes because of the extra noise? Delta said that has been an issue in our cars with the 1500 cams. Has anyone found a way to tune around it? I have EL headers, will that multiply the noise from the cams?

I wouldn't think the cam noise would be anywhere near the frequency range that the knock sensor is tuned to but I am no physicist. I would believe that the cams caused additional knock to occur because the oem tune is in no way suitable for more aggressive lift/duration cams. It's not even suitable for the stock equipment.

So the only drawback I see is they are noisy? At WOT only? Or just cruising around too? I've got a 99RS I want to rebuild and these cams are on my list. Im gonna get a descent header and wrap it up.
Anyone know any tuning options for a 99 RS SOHC?? I can't drive into the states from where I am but maybe I could mail my ECU.
Too bad there's no tool to upload a tune from the Internet with a power commander like SCT or superchips.
