Default v9 swap and NSS troubles!!

so i just did the version 9 sti swap in to my 2002 wrx.. well i am running it with a version 8 ecu, so it runs ok, but my avcs and boost suck so i hear that the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) can cause the car to not function properly or go into a "limp" mode... does anyone have a link or know how i can take care of this problem?? all the help will be appreciated, i want to enjoy my car already!! and yes i have searched on the forums and google, but all i find is people talking about it but never explain how to solve the issue.. thanks again

What MAF? -Speed Density!

the V8 ecu will be looking for the standard neutral position switch, if you have a V9 6-speed your switch is inverted. The car will not know it is in gear and will not activate AVCS. The BCS may be disabled as well.

pull the neutral switch off your 02 tranny and put it in the 6-speed, or get one from the dealer.

sorry i should have been more specific, i am using my 2002 wrx tranny, so i'm assuming i need to use the Neutral Safety Switch from a 6 speed??

Can you datalog? the 02 tranny should be non-inverted as well as the v8 ECU so that should not be an issue.

Might be a stupid question but did you properly wire the AVCS?

yes the avcs came with specific instructions and all the wiring is done correctly, i have checked it several times lol... yesterday i hooked up my romraider and logged a bit. I NOTICED THAT NORMALLY WHEN IN NEUTRAL, ON ROMRAIDER IT SHOWS "6", BUT THIS TIME WHEN I WAS IN NEUTRAL IT SHOWED I WAS IN GEAR "1"... I know that has something to do with that NSS doesnt it??

nevermind guys, i spoke to Paul at East Coast Swappers and he has had lots of experience with these swaps, apparently my car is where it should be, i must not have done something right somewhere. you know the smallest mistakes cause the biggest issues... i hate hunting for problems!

You need to change the gear ratios in the rom so they work on the 5-speed box, If it says 6th gear when you are in other gears you have the wrong neutral switch. if properly setup it should say 6th when you are in neutral.

I believe v8 was the switch year so very early v8s will be the old style, and lated models will be the newer switch.

now this is getting confusing because its two different answers, i looked on the romraider and ecu flash and there is no way to adjust the gears or gear ratio as you state. have you done that before? because i havent but i looked on my ecu map and nothing in that nature shows up for me to adjust.. appreciate the help man thanks

cool found it... i may have found my issue, i think... either both the stock BCS i have are bad OR i have a clogged vacuum line lol.. i ran the car open wastegate and right away it climbed over 8 psi... so more searching for me but im getting closer..

quick question... can i flash a tuned map from a 2002 wrx in to a 2004-2005 wrx??? my buddy did some work on his car and i found him a map that will work on his car at least to get it from a to b, but his car is 04-05 wrx and the map is from a 2002.. can i flash it to his ecu??

no you can not reflash a map that is for an 02 on to a 04-05 you need to move tables over to the 04-05 ecu and reflash. the ecus are different the 02 has more cells in certain areas of the map so it wont work and i wouldnt try it either!
