Default 2012 Subaru Impreza Curb Rash (Sport Premium) Gun Metal Alloy Rims

Has anyone experienced a curb rash on their rim on their 2012 Impreza? If so, did you end up repairing it?

I wanted to add some touch paint to it but I have failed getting a color close to it.

I have contacted Subaru all the way down to the manufacturer and no luck. They have no paint code for it.

If anyone has any advice or tips I would appreciate it.

I found this:

Since you can't find the right color, you may need to repair the rash and repaint all of the rims to match the colors.

Years ago when I bought my Cobalt SS/SC the rims were flaking, the MFG went good on getting them refinished had to do all 4 wheels to make sure the color matched though.

Personally I loved the result, though depending on what it's going to cost it might be more cost effective to buy another rim (I have no idea what stock impreza rims cost...usually OE rims aren't cheap though).

I would just recommend getting the rim refinished to fix curb rash. I'm sure there is a local place that refinishes rims and it will cost less than a new OEM rim.

A place here in Phoenix charges $170 a rim for 17".

Just ask for a quote..

I curbed one of my BBS rims recently. I bought some touch up paint by Duplicolor, some putty bondo, and tried to fix it. The color didn't match at all so I ended up just plasti dipping my wheels black. It's a cheap fix and is easily removed if you don't like it. There is also this company that will exchange your wheel. http://www.wheelcollision.com/sub3.htm

I just scratched up one of my sport premium rims and my rear fender . Called the dealer and they said they could fix the rim...probably will cost an arm and a leg. I would fix it myself if I could find the right paint...

Used that when I touched up my WRX rim. Worked perfectly. As far as color matching, there's gonna be some trial and error.

I was curious if anyone had an update on possible solutions for touch up paint for the sport rims?

I touched up the rash on my '11WRX wheels with paint I got at Toyota. Pretty close match.

I can't find the thread in here now but someone posted that this was a very close match. Just use a light coat.

Ok folks...here is how to fix the rash on your 2012 Impreza Sport. The Toyota Phantom Grey Pearl is an ok match but a bit dark...it can be improved. I bought the Dupli-Color Scratch All-in-one paint pen in Phantom Grey Pearl (ATY1614) and also bought the Subaru Glacier White (ASU1344). Any white would be ok, but I wanted a little Subaru in it. I carefully dripped about 5 drops from the white into the grey and the match is good. You may want to start with 3 drops of white and add one at a time to really fine tune it. From 6 feet away, at the right angle, I cannot see the scuffs. Give it two coats of clear, which comes in the same pen, and polish it a drop. I also went to the Dupli-Color website and there is a $3 rebate for every pen you buy.

I re-did part of my repair and like it even better with 10 drops of white in the grey. It can't be perfect...the results change based on the angle you see it and the sunlight...but it's pretty close.

Ok...I liked the Toyota Phantom Grey...but only at certain angles...up close, it just wasn't right.

I have now found a better option...Ford Mineral Gray (AFM0352). Put in 5-8 drops of any black...I personally think slightly lighter is better than slightly darker, but you can play around with it if you enjoy that stuff...this looks good from all angles and up close. Have some lacquer thinner handy, because if you don't get it right on first few tries, the paint will get gloppy and hard to apply. Put a couple drops lacquer thinner into the pen and also clean the brush if that happens. You can use the thinner to get the paint off the wheel to re-apply, but mask off the area on the wheel so you don't damage good areas. Put 2 coats of clear (comes on the same pen) when finished.
