Thumbs up 10 second street car

My friend ran 10.33 @ 138 with a 1.58 60' in his Twin Turbo 2001 Z06 Vette tonight. That was on the same tires he drove the car to the track on.

How bout them apples?

~v6

edit... 109mph in the 1/8th

well the z06 starts out at 50k, and outperforms a 911 Turbo on a road course stock.

so now it costs the price of a 911turbo and runs 10s

thats like 9 orders of magnitude faster =)

Id much rather drive a 911 Turbo, new one that is. AWD is <3. Though, a 83-85 or so 911 Turbo would also be fun to cruise around in =)

Bill smitty was running low 11's on pump gas. He was testing out something. He was pretty busy all night.

That car is insane too.

Actually, the car mags have done this over and over, the Z06 is about 0.1 second slower on every measurment...but it's not bad for a $50K car compared to a $115K car.

I am very impressed with the current Corvette, GM has finally got it right.

Just to be completely accurate, the car (V6's friends z06) is capable of 9's.

Here is found a link. V6 already posted this before but it is worth seeing again.

If I'm not mistaken the car can be bought for $70k cash if anyones interested

Not too bad for a low 10 second REAL street car.

that's cool but before the end of the year we will see at least one wrx beat that time for well under that price, and next year i think we will see one or 2 get into the 9 second range, and maybe without nitrous.

pretty good for a 4 cylinder engine.

This is a basicly stock vette. Stock lower end. Completely stock interior add a 6point cage.

720hp at the wheels

Good luck at making a comparable car.

If you want an idea of whats up check out this months "Car and Driver" and look at the car that won the Supercar shootout. This TT Z06 will spank that car.

Apples to oranges.

Another thing that 720hp is in a car that weighs around 3200lbs... Just like a rex

You have no idea what fast is till you take a ride in a 700+hp street car... It puts a whole new paintjob on everything.

HaHa, I agree with V6TurboTa. Reminds me of the time we were cruising in my buddy's Grand National and he dropped into 2nd at around 40 and slammed the pedal and everything became a blur fast!!! Really fast. BTW, his car runs 10.60's and is a true street car also. Gotta lov them Buick's -KEVIN-

LoL... thats funny you say that. I was in my friends Stang that ran 10.0 @ 137mph. He got on it on the highway and not only was I completely disorientated and I was completely stuck to the underside of the dashboard, if I hadnt got stuck under the dash i swear i would have gone over the seat into the back.

Not as nice a car as the TT Z06, but wholy crap is it fast.

Fast cars rule!

well I was specifically referring to a car mag test where they took a z06 and 911 turbo around a couple road courses
and the z06 won by about 2 seconds on both of them.

On street tires? Dayam! What kind of tires was he running? That's the impressive part to me.

My next purchase is a Buick GN--I need something to drive when my WRX is sitting around waiting for a clutch, or getting a bottom end rebuild, or whatever.

Actually, I just want something I can spin the rear tires in. GNs rule!

Ditto on the value of the Vette--except they still have these reliability issues that I would refuse to accept in a $45,000 car. My dad has had his car in many times in two years, including a rear diff leak 3X! For $45 - $50K, I might rather invest in a new 350Z and wait for Wolf or Stillen to offer a turbo. I think you're going to see some 350Zs tearing ass at the track next summer.

I dont remember what kind of tires he was on, but they werent drag radials... they were more of a cheater than a drag radial. Either way there street legal and he drove to the track on them

I'll try to find out.

I am pretty sure he was running "cheater slicks". They said M/T on the side (Micky Thompson-?), but you have to have DOT street legal tires to run, all vehicles must have mufflers, etc...

It's street night, and they check. Either way, it's friggen fast! What's most impressive to me, it's a 6-speed. Not an Auto, like many choose for a drag car. He's bang'in every gear himself. No trans brake, no stall converter, no "special launch" stuff, except his technique. Impressive car and an impressive driver. I can't wait to strap on a diaper and go for a ride!

Just wait until it's really cold out! like in mid October!

That's a crazy a$$-fast Vette! With that much power, the driver doesn't need to rev the motore prior to the launch.

In other news:

Back in 1995 I recorded footage at Carlsbad Raceway of "Fast" Lane Goldstein in his Corvette ZR-1. Very impressive all motor drag car. I got his 9.90 e.t. on tape. It's a four speed manual. He sunk more money into the car and it ran a few high 8's. It was for sale last I heard.

Just to clear things up, The car in that video is NOT my friends car.

His car is a 6 speed, that car is an auto.

Uhhhmmmmm..... no.
9 orders of magnitude faster than 12 seconds would be 0.000000012.
