Have a Nice Day? Project A. oryzae

I bought this car about 2 years ago, for the sole purpose of upgrading it to STi spec. She's a 2000 impreza 2.5rs.

The rules were simple: no badges and keep it simple. Though, I think the simple is an understatement now.

The project name? came from this little guy

Up until now I didn't really have anything to post. Most of the mods on the car were small stuff such as bumper, lip spoiler, subaru 4 pot 2 pot conversions, and ikea mud flaps.

LOL what someone stole my bumper.

These are the DCCD wires that go to the center diff. It also goes to the neutral position and reverse sensors.

Ever wonder what the center diff sits in?

out with the old in with the new.

For those who want to do 2 pot with r180? DBA 4656

Engine won't come at least for a few years maybe. It depends on budget / money. Got something special planned for that.

Suspension's already on order with camber plates. They need to be made by KW then sent to RCE for the springs. ETA 8 weeks. The new rear spoiler is here. But I'm waiting for it to get warm enough for me to paint it.

I gave them to him for his birthday. They're made of IKEA DRALLA cuttingboards, cut into a rough rally-like shape, and bolted into the stock mudflap mounting points with speednuts and other stainless steel hardware. I'd be happy to give you the dimensions i used if you're interested.

I love the 555 ball joints. Those are worth .15g of cornering alone!

Awesome project iht. And good to finally meet you the other day.

Well done, I've seen dozes of swaps done at RR where all the lifts/tools/mechanics you needed were on hand, great to se a home done swap as I know how much work is involved. Nicely done sir.

The transmission swap was supposed to be a 2-3 day project but it took about 8 days. We were SO close to finishing on day 2 but small things started to pop up, delaying the completion date. A few days were spent by iht hopping between the local Subaru dealers, Dales, and RR for parts.

It didn't help that iht had used the precision hammer one too many times

Now on to the next phase, whatever that is!

That is true. I stripped one of the ball joints reinstalling it to the bottom of the hub. The aluminum control arms I got, don't match they are a GC and a GD -_- that delayed it some more as I now had to get the hardware to reuse the old RS ones. I've got three "dead" ball joints here. LOL The drive shaft bolts were too short to be used with the STi pillow style drive shaft mounting. The Seals and front axles didn't match up with the tranny which meant I needed to convert it to the older style oil seal. The GD outer axle boot was hitting the endlink. Those were some of the problems that happened.

Not bad, but I learned a lot.

but hey my alignment was still within factory spec after all that was said and done. not bad.

This is exactly what I've beem looking for! And at 3.99 for a 2-pack, I take it that it's good enough for 1 set?

Sure, I'd love the dimensions! Thanks!

once the build is done, I'll probably take her on a few VIC track days. Some Road TSDs and looking for the odd gravel TSD.

Just got around to changing the oil. Nippon Oil Eneos 5w 30

quick pic while buying some coffee for the engine warm up before the oil change.

Yes we did used to go there often to get some coffee. Sometimes there were twin STM gc8s there.

at 60 km/h i'm in 5th gear at 2k RPM or 4th at 2.5k

shifting is pretty fast. You pretty much row through 4 gears before you know it. that's short ratios for you. I like the 6 speed compared to the 5 speed. The tranny clicks into gear when you shift into gear. I used to have this really loud tranny whine all through the first 4 gears, but that seems to have died down now and it's not as loud.

u probably had a bad bearing with your old tranny and seems like you have resealed the new one with probably some extra work?

yup i saw once with twin STM gc8s, but few times probably only yours.

i believe the short gear ratio will let you benefits a lot going uphill, i had a bigger final drive when i had my EK Civic with B18CR (with 1.5 way LSD) swap, then a JDM tranny with closer gear ratio + bigger final drive and LSD (probably a 1 way) when i had my supercharged echo...even if i ended up with a WRX i will probably do the same swap (already have a WRB 2.5RS at home)...so might as well getting a STi...

hope to see you down at some meet or timmy in the future

We'll see if the boys want to go for some coffee tonight LOL.

the whine was from the 6 speed. it just kinda went away when I was going to do the oil change today. New everything, throwout bearing, pilot, clutch, PP in fact. (totally overspec for this motor.) It's also for the new engine so I don't have to buy a new clutch when I put in the new engine. Just buy a lighten flywheel.
