Default launching

I have 1400 miles on my WRX and i was wondering what rpm i should launch at. I have heard that poping the clutch is really bad for the car and can completely screw up 1st and 2nd gear so i wanted some more experienced WRX drivers to give me some advice on how to launch this thing. My last car was a Camaro so i am totally new to the turbo AWD thing so any help would be much appriciated. Thanks a lot.

General AWD launching knowledge says rev to about 4k slip the clutch till you get the car moving then get off the clutch and on the gas.

This uses the clutch to cushion the initial shock to the drivetrain...but you will kill the clutch after maybe 50 odd launches, but as well all know clutches are cheaper than trannies.

be careful.

On a good launch you will not smoke the clutch.

Search and you'll find tons of writeups on how to launch. But keep in mind that its going to be different for cars with different mods.

With an MBC you can basicly dump it and spin all 4 for 20-30ft

Thats my favorite way

I've dumped the clutch before with no smelly clutch or other consequences.

IMO if you smell the clutch when you drop it, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The clutch is taking the shock by slipping a little (creating that lovely smell). A stiffer clutch wouldn't slip and would transfer 100% flywheel inertia instantaneously. Good for times, bad for trannies. I launch by flooring it and dumping at 5-5.5k. I get 1.95 60' times consistently but others have done much better *shrug*
