Default subaru crosstrek

my wife called Irvine Subaru (in So Cal) and they had said they were going to start releasing the crosstrek around September of this year...has anybody heard or asked about this car and has heard the same?

my wife is pretty interested in it and im trying to come up with the money to maybe buy the car for her since she bought my wrx for me. let me know if you guys heard anything about this car personally and even what you think of it. thanks!

Not sure how I feel about the new vehicle, but IMO this is one of the best commercials Subaru has ever made.

I'm not so thrilled about the 4MPG fewer on the hwy vs. the regular Impreza. I don't get how a lifted suspension could affect it that much. Does the EPA really just suck at being consistent with their ratings?

That being said, it looks cool. I still kinda want one.

Could there be different gearing?

It's probably a decent amount heavier too, considering that it's made to be a little more rugged than the standard Impreza.

Edit: Only about 50 to 100 lbs heavier according to this: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review

I'd entertain one if it had 50 more HP even at the cut of a few MPG.

4mpg fewer?! oh wow i had no idea about that...and i'd agree that its probably heavier which can probably lead to that gas getting lost...i just hope that when we get in one i don't feel like its just an impreza lifted. i want something different in the inside or anywhere. the outside looks like the impreza and its not a bad look but if i go in and its just the same too i don't know if i'll buy, and i know especially my wife won't buy lol

we have had a lot of interest in this vehicle, more so that we did with the BRZ pre release, and just as much as we did pre release of the 2012 Impreza. We sell a lot of Outbacks and Foresters and find that at least in this area many people are concerned with the ground clearance. It comes up in just about every conversation I have with customers when they look at the Impreza and the Legacy. "I like it, but I am concerned about the ground clearance. I live on a dirt road", is what I hear a lot. Granted quite a bit of it is not warranted I think. I have no problem on my dirt road in my STI. Point being that the Crosstrek will give people that smaller Impreza 5 door like size but with the ground clearance of an Outback/Forester.

I thought I read a comment from SOA a while back that stated that the decreased mileage for the XV was due to the weight and that it was raised, so less wind resistant? The 2012 Impreza is low to help save on fuel specifically for lower drag coefficient.

suspension components and those tires prob account for the more weight. I doubt the body is any more rugged.

You lie! Subaru specifically states that the plastic cladding up front and around the wheel wells allows the car to either be or appear more "rugged".

Per 2013 NY Statement Release: http://media.subaru.com/index.php?s=...8&mode=gallery

Quote:
Built for Rugged Action or Everyday Driving
Compared to the Subaru Impreza five-door model it is based on, the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek incorporates numerous body and chassis enhancements for its expanded-capability mission. Black side- and wheel-arch cladding, rocker spoiler and roof rails provide a rugged contrast to the body color. The higher ride height, roof spoiler and unique-design 17-inch wheels bolster the Subaru XV Crosstrek model’s go-anywhere stance and attitude. Front and rear bumpers and the front grille are unique to the Subaru XV Crosstrek, and dark-tint privacy glass is standard.

The rugged styling is backed up by function, as the four-wheel independent suspension features a raised configuration in the Subaru XV Crosstrek. The new crossover model’s 8.7 inches of ground clearance is higher than for most other crossovers and even some dedicated SUVs. The Subaru XV Crosstrek uses standard 17-inch alloy wheels with 225/55 R17 all-season tires to provide all-weather traction and performance. The four-wheel disc brake system in the Subaru XV Crosstrek features larger front rotors than on the Impreza 2.5i models.
BOOM! Lawyered.

What's the point of extra plastic if you can't bash it, hmmmmm?

I am wondering if he is refering to just getting in it, or actually driving it. The Outback feels different from the Legacy and I think there will be something similar with the Impreza to the Crosstrek.

i like it! get it for your wife. I think the styling is nice and it comes with the subaru AWD which makes it so much nicer for me. For me, the competitor for this is the kia sportage but because it's subaru I'd take the subie crosstrek over the sportage.
