I'm ready for this weekend fights. I'm liking all the match-ups on the main card but I'm the most excited to see how Varner does in his second fight back.

Any predictions for this weekends card?

So which one of the 4 (Rue, Vera, Machida, Bader) is a contender for Jones?

Maybe I've missed some history on Varner but I still like him and think he will win this weekend.

I think Shogun is the only that stands any kind of chance. His first fight against Bones was one in which he was coming off knee surgery and a long layoff. Having said that, do I think Shogun can beat him? No. I don't think anyone can stand up with Jones. Someone is going to have to put him on his back, keep him there and either finish him that way or more than likely grind out a win.

^^^ very ture and I wholeheartedly agree. But who can get him to the ground?

As a side note, WTF is up with Silva's camp wanting a catchweight fight with GSP, doesn't Silva V Jones make more sense?

170-->185 is the single most significant weight class jump in MMA. That's why Silva would rather fight GSP. Yes, I know 205-->265 is a much larger spread, but difference in fighters' bodies is generally not as significant. There are some physical freaks like Lesnar and Carwin, but neither of them has really done all that much, if you think about it. And I bet JBJ could hold his own against either of those guys. The mid-sized heavyweights like Dos Santos and Velasquez have actually fared better in that class than the huge freaks.

GSP is too small and I have almost zero interest in a GSP vs Silva matchup. I would absolutely love to see Silva vs Bones.

All I meant was Silva and Jones walk around at a much closer weight than Silva compared to GSP. It only seems logical that he would fight at 205, he's done it before. Is he afraid of Jones? The answer is YES

Speaking of Jr., him and Jones would make a good fight and I hope we see that down the road.

Got a couple of tickets for tomorrows UFC on Fox show at Staples Center.
It will be the first MMA event I've seen in person. Definitely looking forward to it.

Agreed, Gsp has his frame filled out at 170. Both Jones and Silva have the lankiness to put on more weight and move up a weight class.

We only got cheap-ish tickets. $75 iirc.

We were almost going to get pricey seats ($700?) for the GSP-Diaz (big GSP fans) fight of 2011 but didn't. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise in the end since that card ended up so different than originally intended.
That decided us that we would never pay so much money for a fight card that MAY not end up being one we care about.
These Staples seats are up in the Gods but the wife was there for the Stanley Cup finals and seemed to think that there is not a bad seat in the house.

And seeing all these empty seats early on the TV broadcast has always amazed me. Folks pay good money and don't want to the see the (ususally) thrilling undercard fights?
We're going to be there when doors open!

Thug, the Varner vs Marcus Hicks fight is what made me a Varner fan. I'll find a vid and post it up later

Im the same way, but I just have to keep it realistic. I don't see Vera having any kind of chance against Shogun. IF, and that's a big IF, Bader can take Machida down, he has a better chance.

^ true. I've never been a huge fan of Vera but it would be nice to see him turn it around. I do like his reach in this fight. If Vera can keep him outside It may turn into a really interesting fight.

The Machida vs Bader is a tough call. I lean toward Machida simply because of his unique fighting style and speed.
