AP V1 Won't communicate with ECU

Scooby threw a cel today , so I went to read the code with my old accessport (v1), and I can't get it to communicate with the ecu. From what I can gather after doing alot of hunting, the steps to do so should be just

1) connect green test connectors under driver side dash

2) turn key to ON position (do I need to turn the engine on?)

3) connect AP and select read cel code

When I do this, I get "Error: cannot communicate with ECU". Some people have said that these old ap's tend to have bad cables, but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated. I'm probably going to just go to autozone to have the codes read, but I'll be bummed if my AP is toast. Although it may just be time for an upgrade to the new V2 (I know they're doing a trade-in offer )

Connecting the green test mode connectors is only necessary when you are installing or uninstalling the AccessPORT or reflashing a different map. For reading CEL codes, you do not want to connect the test mode connectors as it can impact the codes that are read (test mode throws a collection of codes that are not actually problems). But, even in test mode, it will not impact your ability to use the CEL reader, so it sounds like there may be a problem with the AP itself or cable. The only thing you can really check is to make sure there are no bent pins on the OBD cable end and make sure it is secure to the unit and car.

As you mentioned, we do have the $200 trade-in program for the v1 AP when you purchase a v2 AP through us. We will take any v1 AP, whether it is working or not. The v2 AP will recognize the older v1 AP install and install over it, so there's no issue in not being able to uninstall the v1. Details about the trade-in program here:
