Post Searched, probably FAQ...RS stock speaker sizes and direct fit replacements?

I know this was probably asked alot, but I dont frequent this forum enough to remember, I searched but only came up with wrx stock speaker sizes.

Like the subject says.. What size are the stock speakers front and rear. Can you get good direct fit replacements?

Thanks for the help.

6 1/2 front and rear... the only issue is mounting depth in front, but nothing that can't be resolved with a spacer. (all on the inside of the door panel. there's more than enough room behind the plastic, you just need to build out from the metal to clear the window when it's down)

anything specific you're looking at?

Nothing specific, I have a jvc kdlx10 its 45x4, I have the subaru premium sound, but the sub doesnt work to good with this radio, it only hits when the volume is really loud, then the speakers dont sound to good.

I want to take out the sub, and just put four good reasonably priced speakers that hit hard.

A friend on this board said he has infinity reference and they are good and are a direct fit.

Do you know any others? thanks

The rule of thumb seems to be to keep the depth under 2.5" and you'll be set. Mine were 3", actually just over, and I had to get a spacer built. It's still VERY tight re-attaching the door's interior, but it does fit. You should be able to find 6.5's in the proper depth. 2.5" isn't really that shallow.
I'd look at Boston's for the similar price range to the Infinity's. I also like Alpine's mid-range line from last year(Spr-135's I think, not the highest end in that line). They sound great for their price.

2 pairs should be fine - i think you've got 6 1/2" all around. i found the rears to be a little more of a pain to install than the fronts in an rs.

don't know if the new references are the same as the old, but i had to cut away part of the plastic weather thing that holds the speaker to get it to fit. a spacer would have worked, too.

Focal - not sure of the website

Orion HCCA's - www.ebay.com

I hope this helps...
