Default Idle Air Control Valve: Anyone had this replaced?

Subaru dealer said that mine is the reason I get a high idle. He also said that it was a $400 job. One dealer also once told me I needed a new steering column along with about $600 of work, which my mechanic told me was a bunch of BS. He was right. I don't want to spend $400 on a 1996 Brighton Coupe with 190,000 miles on it. Any suggestions?

I don't know how much the the IAC valve will cost, but the job is described in Haynes (lottery ) manual in about 50 words and three fotos.

I haven't got a scanner so I'm not able to send the instructions from the manual for you. It's not expencive to buy either.
I also bet here is someone who are able to help you with instructions and knowledge.

The problem has already been identified by the dealer:
-Buy the part on-line [or local if you dealer will give you a competitive discount].
-Buy a Haynes or Chilton manual, [it will come in handy for other repairs].
-Do it youself in less than 5 minutes.

Default Liberty Subaru

You can get it from newsubaru.com (East Coast) or subaruparts.com (West Coast).

Also, AutoZone.com lists one for $340.

Alternatively, you can just try cleaning it with intake cleaner (or carb cleaner marked safe for O2 sensors/converters). Take it off and spray it down...

Also try cleaning you throttle body.

Just the part is $400, can only imagine what it would cost with labor . I took the 1 off my car & cleaned it. Then used sea foam(read up on that). Car runs much better

That was 12 years ago, pretty sure they took care of it by now
