Angry 4400 miles and my windshield is cracked.

Crappy Pennsylvania and their crappy non-stop highway construction. Gravel was kicked up from the road, and now there's a 8" long crack running up my windshield.

I guess I'll be on the phone with my insurance company tomorrow.

Do you have full glass coverage on your insurance policy?

I'd push for OEM Subaru glass, if you can get it. This would probably mean using the dealership's body shop to do the work.

Called my dealership, and a factory windshield with the heating elements, molding, and installation comes to $776. Not even worth filing a claim.

Ouch. I have $0 deductible on glass, no wonder my insurance went up 50% compared to my last car, heh. I had glass replaced on my last car and it was less than $400 installed.

Mine cracked a couple days ago at 4,000 miles. right now the only place to get the glass is the dealer. The glass alone runs around $500.00. Thankfully, $0 deduct on glass.

Wow!!! Did you take a pic of my windshield It looks exactly like the crack in my windshield. My insurance company's glass people had to get the OEM windshield direct from the dealership. They said the car is so new there is no aftermarket parts yet, plus my car has the heating elements installed. I'm still waiting for them to call back since it had week long delivery time

Side note: From reading the forum, seems like Subaru glass is crap! I've had my 99 civic since 1999 and had road debris and small rocks thrown at it and nothing! Just tiny chips but no stars, webs, nada. I only have 1,800 miles on the Impreza and I get the windshield cracked!

It might not just be Subaru. I too have a 1999 Civic with its original windshield. I owned a 2010 VW Golf TDI for 2 years (before replacing it with the Impreza), and had to replace its windshield once during my ownership. Could be coincidence, or maybe car manufacturers are using a difference grade of glass these days.

I've also read that glass on cars today are not as good as older model cars. They use inferior products to cut cost but still raise the prices on you, SMH!!!

My experience with honda windshields is pretty bad. My 91 crx cracked, and my 91 integra just shattered going over a speedbump one day.

This is my 5th Impreza, and I've put over 400,000 miles on them since I got my first Subaru in 2000. This is my first windshield crack.

Apparently here in NJ, the windshield falls under the same deductible as comprehensive coverage, hence the insane deductible. I'll be changing that.

I had a 86 Accord and a 94 Integra both of which developed cracks along the bottom of the windshield. It happened several times on the Integra, I finally just gave up on it since the crack was in a place that didn't affect visibility.

I just dropped my comprehensive deductible (includes glass) from $250 to $50 because of these windshield threads.

Around here you really need glass coverage. I used to go through alot of windshields, but havent had to replace one in a while. I used to worry that the insurance company was going to say something about the amount of glass I was going through.

Windshield replacements show up on a clue report, right?

I got mine quoted for $1100 from the dealer(with heated wipers). Luckily I was still under the dealers insurance so when I got my own I just made sure I got the lowest deductible which was $100.

I just want to make sure you understand that the lower your deductible, the higher your premiums. You should ask your insurance agent to tell you how much more you're paying for a $100 deductible vs. a $500 deductible, and then decide if you really think you'll go through enough windshields to justify the extra ongoing premium expense.

I have $500 deductible on my insurance, but I added a full-glass rider which wasn't very expensive.
