Default transmission question

im looking at a couple subaru impreza outback sports. one is a 99 with 95k and the other is an 02 with 147k. both same price. had a buddy with an 02 wrx and told me about the infamous glass transmission. does the 02 outback sport have the same tranny? I checked out the site listed in the faq for newbs, and i cant see any difference really. trying to figure out if a car thats 4 years newer is worth the trade off in an extra 50k miles on engine...if it has that bad tranny though, makes decision a little easier

thanks

same casing, different gearing. different rear differential final drive most likely. I have not committed final drive ratios to memory, you will need to look those up. They are readily available on this site somewhere.

I believe the clutch is a different configuration as well push vs pull. You will also need to look up that information, which is also available on the site.

The wrx transmission doesn't become a problem unless you beat on it or go past 300 hp. even if it were the same you shouldn't have a problem.
